Besides working on my own family tree I'm working, through public records such as those found on Ancestry.com, to identify the men, women and children buried at the state hospitals in Morganton, NC, Goldsboro, NC, Brattleboro, VT, Namozine, VA, Rusk, TX, New Toronto, Canada and Middletown, CT and to link them to their loved ones. I have also listed those buried at the Caswell Training Center in Kinston, NC and Letchworth Village in NY and hope to have assistance in linking them to their loved ones. |
I grew up in Greenville county, SC, first in the city of Greenville, then at the foot of Glassy Mountain in the "Dark Corner" where my maternal grandmother and her parents and grandparents were born. My mother, Anne Ballenger King McCuen, worked for decades as a meticulous land historian in upper SC and published several research texts. My father, William Garrison McCuen, MD worked for decades as an internist/general practitioner caring for many of the upstate SC residents in their homes, hospitals, the Veterans' clinic and his office.
Now I am in the foothills of NC, but enjoy maintaining family property near Glassy Mtn.
You hereby have my express permission to use ANY photo I have made and posted to Find a Grave for your own purposes - but I would appreciate a credit notation as the source should you repost it on your family tree, for this reflects the efforts made in preserving the record and may also provide a link to others interested in that person or cemetery.
I "inherited" a number of memorials posted by Buck Buchanan who introduced me to FAG and will happily transfer them to family. Just send a SAC stating your relationship and I'll be pleased to turn them over to your care. Alternatively, if you are working to identify folks in a particular cemetery where Buck posted memorials and would like to manage the memorials he posted - just let me know and I'll be happy to transfer them to your management. I have found that Buck duplicated a few of the memorials he posted (and on occasion so have I) - if you find that to be the case please let me know so I can remove the duplicates.
As for those of you who assist me in making these memorials useful and respectful, "thanks" and please keep your helpful edits coming.
A lot of conflicts might be avoided among us if each of us will accept and act as if this is about those who've gone before and NOT about us.

Hi! I've noticed pellagra is listed as the cause of death for a logic the folks buried at Broughton. Any idea why? Seems odd for people in a hospital to die of a vitamin deficiency. I'd think a hospital would provide proper nutrition. Just curious...
|CHAROLETTE WILSON||MARGARET "MAGGIE" PRICE JAMES|
THANK YOU SUSANNAH MCCUEN FOR THE UPDATE ON MY GG AUNT'S OBITUARY IN OAK GROVE CEMETERY. HER PARENTS NAMES WERE SAMUEL PRICE AND KATHRINE HUMPHRIES-PRICE. LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A TYPO AS CHAVIS. MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS MAGGIE'S BROTHER. AND MY GRANDMOTHER WAS HER NEICE - MAGNOLIA PRICE WHO IS BURIED IN THE NEW OAK GROVE CEMETERY THERE IN ELIZABETH CITY, NC. BEEN TRYING TO REACH OUT TO THAT FAMILY BECAUSE MY GREAT AUNT SARAH PRICE RIDDICK PASSED AWAY IN 2012 (BURIED IN NEW OAK GROVE) SHE NEVER MENTIONED MARGARET (MAGGIE) PRICE JAMES BUT SHE WOULD ALWAYS SPEAK ABOUT MY GRAND MOTHER MAGNOLIA (MAGGIE)PRICE. LOOKS LIKE THE NAME MAGGIE WAS PASSED DOWN WHICH IS A GOOD THING.

Thank you so much for catching this. I have made the changes and please let me know if you find anything else wrong and I would be more than happy to correct the issues. Thank you
Thanks for the information on Mrs. Watts. It has been added to her memorial. Thanks again and have a great evening. Joan

Junius Wilson's mother was actually Mary Smith Wilson Clark, not Mary Foy Clark. The two Mary's were close in age and born on the same road but are most definitely 2 different people. Thanks

Sorry I was only trying to help. Before I added the memorials I did a search on Find A Grave and nothing pulled up so I made the add. I did list in the bio of the cemetery my source of info which was from a Christopher B. McCarter, a great great great great grandson of William Center. I was unaware the picture wasn't his and I did not know the source from which he got the picture. The last name of Messy was also given by him. I have deleted the memorials that I had added. Again I was only trying to help, as I know first hand the loss of a family cemetery. We had one that was destroyed back in the 1960's and a Concrete slab and metal garage was built on the site with just 3 broken gravestones piled up in a corner underneath a tree between 2 fences - all that is left of a cemetery that contained maybe 20 graves. Thank you for pointing out this issue.
