Bio Photo 8/18/2014: I think I need to take a break from this site. For any of us who have been on this site for a while, I am sure you have noticed the same things that are causing my frustrations. Too much pettiness, too many people looking to have the most memorials and too many pop-up advertisements. Sad really as this seemed like such a great idea when I first signed on. The biggest pet peeve of all is disrespect. Keep in mind that you can attract more bees with honey than you can with vinegar...before you send me a nasty note.

I have not stopped my work on the Confederate section of Old City Cemetery. This is a labor of love and I will not stop til it is complete. If you take photos in the Confederate section to post a memorial here, please check, double check and triple check before posting. There are a lot of errors in the records and a number of the stones are incorrectly marked.

I thank you so much for taking a picture of the area where Uncle Harry is buried. Do you have a close up of his headstone?

I appreciate the job you do,

A grateful niece,

Gail

RE: Mary Liggan
you did not need to delete your memorial, I am not related, I am a history buff, but thank you anyway. Yes. I deleted my email address because people can be so mean and negative, and I just don't need that stuff in my life. Life is short, be happy, because later we all know what happens, and then... was all that negativity really necessary? :-)

RE: John Drinkard
Very interesting, I will double check with the immediate family to see if they know anything. I have been told Patra or Cleopatra is his wife, and she died in 1932 maybe that is why she is not in the obit. Would you mind emailing me pics of the other Drinkard family members in that cemetery? I would like to see if any are tied into John Letcher Drinkard.

Thanks a bunch

Away Time
Just read that you're taking a break- I'll miss seeing your memorials.

I haven't been doing this long but I know exactly what you mean by negative feedback- I've come across some rather abrasive personalities in my short time on the site.

Sometimes it seems, as much good as we do, we can't seem to please everybody- and it's those folks that can really define an overall experience.

Other than taking the high road- there's not much we can do but grin and bear it. But I can see where a person can become easily burnt-out.

Nevertheless, I truly believe that as miserable as some people can make this hobby- the good we do and the fun we have can outweigh the bad.

Anyway, cemeteries can be lonely places. Hope you aren't gone long.

Kitty Cat at Old City Cemetery
Darrell, Did the kitty on your home page, find a home? How about you adopting her/him? That picture is soooo cute! I was afraid to read the caption at first. I thought the kitty might be missing its owner, who recently passed away. That would break my heart. I have a VERY CLOSE BOND with my kitties.

You seem to be a very nice person because you talk about how people on the web (and the entire world) don't respect anyone or anything anymore. It IS very sad. It's like Judge Judy says "people are NOT responsible for anything they do anymore. It's always someone else's fault" While I don't agree with everything JJ says, that statement I agree with! I'm in Northern California & just joined this site in order to talk to you. Thanks! Haha!

Where is this Old City Cemetery located? It looks old, but beautiful. I can see why the kitty wants to hang out. But he/she needs a warm home with love & food.

Thanks for your time and with helping people find their loved ones as I've been reading your site. tammeow3@gmail.com

Noooooooooooo
I just read your bio where you are frustrated and need a break. You are right about the picky people.I had one get so angry at me that I had put up a memorial that she harassed me to high heaven.

This is such good documentation for future generations who would never find this info on their own. Take a break, get refreshed, and come back.

I feel your pain.
