Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a retired federal employee who fell into doing some online research for a friend of mine - a McKenzie - and now I'm in so deep I can't get out! Most of you probably know the feeling. But it's a harmless obsession which I enjoy so I'll stick with it until I pull out the rest of my disappearing hair. I try to post most of my findings on Find A Grave so if you're interested in the McKenzie family who settled in central Missouri after emigrating from North Carolina via Kentucky, just enter the last name - mckenzie - in the box to the right and take a look! As for my own family, some surnames would be Fallas, Fallass, Bray, Oechsli, Mills - all of those in the northeastern quadrant of the lower 48 - and, on the Swedish side, Nilsson and Waldemarsson in the province of Skåne län.

RE: James Everett
I tried really hard to read that newspaper. I would have typed off the article and put it in his bio section because it must be something of interest, but I could never get it close enough to see.

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond; I haven't been on FindAGrave in a while. There was nothing unclear about your request either time; it seems that I was the one who was unclear in my response to your first request. As I tried to say in my previous message, I do not maintain Albert's memorial so I cannot add the relationship to Albert's father. As I tried to explain before, only the memorial owner can add linked relationships to the parents of the person the memorial is for.

Take care,

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
Hi Tom,
I don't see an edit on my profile's edits page regarding Albert and indeed, I shouldn't see one as Albert's memorial is not maintained by me and parents are added at the memorial of the child. Personally I turn my research into little bios of people rather than pasting indexed records. I hope someday we can successfully find out what happened to Mary. ~Liz

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
Hi Tom,
Yes, I found it on in the Kansas City Star. (I technically found it through a Google search, but happened to have a subscription.) Do you have a subscription to that site? I have not found a death record for any of the three of them yet. I did continue searching and found that Saidee (as she preferred it to be spelled)/Sadie (as everyone else seems to have spelled it) married again but her next husband also died and that is where the trail has gone cold for her so far. Her next husband, Joseph William Corder, is *also* buried at Forest Hill, as is his previous wife, Stella (WeMott) Corder. also has an article I hadn't found before (also in the Kansas City Star) about Generous and Kate having taken a trip on the Missouri River in their personal steam-powered houseboat! I hadn't thought to search for him as "Dr G L Henderson" until I found Albert's obit, and he was referenced that way in the other article too. ~Liz

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
Hope your team wins. I just found an obit for Albert in a Kansas City paper that lists him as the son of "the late G. L. Henderson," who is described as an early Kansas City physician. So it looks like by researching Albert, we have solved the mystery of what happened to Mary! I remain perplexed as to why Albert seemingly isn't enumerated in 1880, but who knows...

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
I see he is buried at Forest Hills, memorial # 125736778. His name is typed Alexander on the memorial though the gravestone clearly says Albert. I haven't located him in the digitized Missouri death records though.

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
OK, it looks like that Mary Henderson, while also living in Kansas City, had a son Albert Henderson by her Henderson husband (b. c. 1875), as she and her Jenkins husband are living with him in Kansas City in 1910. Though he is a physician himself, I've found no evidence so far that Mary & Generous had surviving children who would have been adults by 1900, so I guess it is probably another red herring.

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
I've seen a lot of divorces (official and unofficial) but have personally never found an annulment, so I thought the former was a lot more likely than the latter, though of course both are possible. I had already tried some searching, looking at some trees, etc., when trying to figure out what happened to Mary but I just tried again and found this:

Name: Mary E. Henderson
[Mary E. Campbell]
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Widowed
Race: White
Age: 49
Birth Date: 1847
Birth Place: Pennsylvania
Marriage Date: 21 Oct 1896
Marriage Place: Marion, Indiana
Father: Eli Campbell
Mother: Mary Thompkins
Spouse: John W. Jenkins
FHL Film Number: 413541
Reference ID: Pg 256 Rn 120

Given that she married in Marion, Indiana, I wonder if she was really divorced or separated and claimed that she was widowed, which I have also seen a lot. That marriage was around the same time Generous and Kate married.

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
Yes, Campbell is such a common name that it's hard to know one way or the other, and it seems like since she married in the same place she had previously married, perhaps she wouldn't have remarried under her maiden name? I don't know. I'm going to leave the link to Generous and Mary's marriage record that I added after you shared it with me, and let interested parties try to figure out for themselves what happened to Mary.

Thanks very much for sharing the long article on the history of the house, which I've finally had time to read fully through. I'd had no idea that some of the words in Generous's advertisements were code words, so that was fascinating to discover in the article along with the history of the house.

And thanks again for contacting me!

RE: Re: Generous Henderson
Hi Tom,
When I searched FamilySearch to see what they had added for Generous (as they had added the marriage record you found since my last search) I realized why I had never found him on early censuses - Ancestry has him misindexed in 1860 and his name is mangled in the document in 1850 and Ancestry was the only place I'd searched the censuses for him. He gives different answers for where his mother was born on nearly every census, so I went with Cynthia since she was at a minimum John's wife by 1850, when Generous was a small child.

It is definitely plausible for Generous and Mary's marriage to have ended in a way other than death. I do not know whether it is true but it would explain why I have been unable to find her death in Missouri. One of my older cousins knew Kate and all she really remembers about Generous is that Kate had married him, since he died before my cousin was born. Thanks for your help and suggestions. ~Liz
