Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've been into family history since the 1960's. I'm grateful that I started when I did as so much family information gets lost because we don't ask questions early on.

Find a Grave is a great site and powerful resource. Thanks to all who work so hard to fulfill its primary purpose - documenting known burials.

I'm paying particular attention to Salem Memorial Park in Colma, CA. I appreciate being able to help fill in for all that information lost in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire.

The site has also provided a couple of wonderful finds regarding my family history --- primarily Nancy Brenneman Gast Rhodes (check her out!). Until I found her on Find a Grave, everyone thought she died in 1852. I'm hoping to be able to provide similar breakthroughs for others.

I'm happy to make changes and links for well documented information. Please send transcriptions of obits and news articles (with name and date of the publication) rather than uploading an image of it to the photo area (this is no longer permitted by Find-a-Grave). Also, please note that "cut and paste" census reports are NOT a bio. Data will be put into proper fields. If you want more, please write a few narrative sentences.

Permission is granted for personal use of any of the photos I have added, giving me credit for having provided them. Permission is denied for use of my photos for posting on other websites (this includes - please use Ancestry's linking option instead). Permission is denied for for sale of my photos or for any other use for monetary profit.

RE: Annie Bernhard
Just posted information, then actually stopped to READ your comments. Here's documentation on Annie Bernhard:

RE: Annie Bernhard
Whatever works. (I've found quite a few folks just suggest a transfer.)

Annie Catherine Bernhard HARRISON
Born 12 October 1866 San Francisco
Died 14 August 1887 San Francisco
Third daughter of German immigrants Elisa (Catoir) and Bernhard Bernhard, Annie grew up on the eastern edge of San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood, a short walk from the Palace Hotel, where her father owned and operated the barber shop. At the age of 19, she married Newton Francis Harrison. Their only child, daughter Anna H., was born August 11, 1887. Annie died just three days later.

(Wish I knew more, but that’s it. I’m at a loss to understand why she’s listed by her maiden name in Cypress Lawn records. Her parents raised her daughter and her husband went on to marry again. The memorial which celebrates many members of this family likely wasn’t erected for many years after her death. Perhaps one or more of these things caused those who filled out the paperwork to consider her more a Bernhard than a Harrison…?)

Hi Larry, I noticed that you mentioned Charles Quilfelt as Minna's first husband and that he died in 1855.

I have been researching this pioneer family of El Cerrito and talk with relatives.

We are all wondering where you got the 1855 death date for Charles Quilfelt? Thank you so much for your help,

Joanne R.

Was very happy to see that you found my great grandfather's grave stone which I looked for way back in the 1970's but could not locate. Our family were early SF settlers and these memorials are a great help. Henry was a 49er. Would you be willing to transfer him to a direct descendant (me)? His daughter, Matilda, Memorial #148244489 is my great-grandmother. Thank you for your work.

Memorial #105684287 & 105684278
Hi Larry,

This headstone is not consistent, therefore the names are confusing. On the left side, both children are FISHER children. They are my grandfather's siblings. The top left is Carl Henning FISHER who was born and died in 1907. The bottom left is Lucillie Lillian FISHER, b. 28 Apr 1910 and d 26 Oct 1914.

Would you please change their records on Find-a-Grave?

Thank you,
Kim Young

Hi Larry,

Thank you for responding! This is very interesting that the inscription for Wickware is on the back of the Dake monument. So, would you say this monument is actually for Dake's grave and not located on the Wickware grave?
If you have a longer obituary than the one you posted, would you be so kind as to email me them in whole for both George C. Wickware and for Eliza, his wife? My email is
Much appreciated!

On this memorial for Eliza Wickwear as well as her husband George C. Wickware, you have added a photo of the headstone of Edmond Church Dake and wife Marion A. Dake. They actually named a son, Leland Wickwear Date but the said surname of Marion Adalaide is Hall or Haws. Hoping you can tell me the connection or why you added the Date headstone to the Wickwares memorials?
Thank you!
