Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born in southwest Iowa and currently live in a suburb of Omaha, Nebraska. Both sides of my family have strong "roots" in Fremont and Page County, Iowa, which is where I've taken the majority of the photos I've added to FindAGrave. Civil War veterans in SW Iowa and the 4th Iowa Cavalry are recent interests.

Simply taking a picture of a headstone is difficult for me. I use various sources to fill in the dash between the dates. If I've made mistakes feel free to send me corrections, or additions. I know that exact dates and places of birth and death, family relationships, obituaries, burial plots, etc. can be important sources of information. I will add information to any memorial I've created. I am more than willing to transfer memorials if they are not my relatives.

If I didn't create a memorial but did upload a photo of the headstone, click on the headstone photo for additional information. I've given up on suggesting edits and/or corrections to the creator of the memorial.

Anyone may use any of my headstone photos from Find A Grave for their own family research.

John Carnes photo
You are most welcome to use the photo of John Carnes' headstone at Jefferson Barracks. That was one of my early photos and it is not very clear. However, I'm recovering from surgery and unable to return to the cemetery for a better photograph. I will be happy to photography the rest of the 4th Iowa when I can resume photographing at JB.

Vyse's in Hamburg Cemetery
And, if you are not related to the Vyses in Hamburg Cemetery, I would very much be interested in you transferring them to me. I would take very good care of them. I am related to them, though distantly, through our common Beckwith ancestor. I have search long and hard for Mary (Beckwith) Vyse, because she first married James Barton in Ontario, and then, on his death married, a man with the last name Vyse. I had looked for her for years. It has only been with the advent of the Internet that I was able to locate her about 2 to 3 years ago. I only recently joined Find A Grave, so I didn't contact you sooner. Thank you.

James and Mary Vyse
Hello,

I would like to thank you for posting the tombstones with the birth and death info on James Vyse and Mary Vyse in Hamburg Cemetery, Fremont County, Iowa. I just want to let you know that I changed the dates and places of birth and death to agree with the tombstone.

I am hoping that you also have tombstone photos to match the dates of birth and death you posted for the above people, because there should be a James Arthur Vyse in Hamburg Cemetery that agrees with the dates you posted (husband of Susan Louise (Snyder) Vyse, and a Mary (Cunningham) Vyse, wife of Irving L. Vyse. I hope you will check your records and enter them on Find A Grave, if you have evidence of them being buried there.

I live in Michigan, so can not visit the cemetery to take photos. I am hoping you do live close, and can visit the cemetery again to take photos.

I will also try to call the cemetery and see if they have records of the above two missing people in the cemetery.

Again, thank you for posting the above to individuals. I am so happy to have been able to link them to the Beckwith family.

oops
I should have read your profile better; I see you collect Civil War vets in Iowa.
Have a question/request for you: I've been looking for a ggfather for 30+ years. Seriously. He used to live in Page County, but moved across the border to Lamar Station, MO. Died on Xmas day 1879, but there's no death record or cemetery listing I and several other cousins have been able to find. (I think he just died too early for the records). Could you put him on your mental list and let me know if you ever see/hear anything about him? William Granville Lee, Civil War Vet 113th Ill. Inf. Married to Rebecca Guthrie. Her pension records are no help.
I'd never ask on this site, except that I see you collect vets in Page County (he's not, apparently, buried there or in Lamar), so thought you might have an idea for me. Forgive me, but we're all just desperate! And you seem such an angel!
Thanks again, and don't go out of your way (unless I can pay you) but keep him in mind if you would.
Debra

Many thanks
What an angel you are to go take this photo of Lizzie's stone in such record time! I've never asked before, but I'm sure it's rare to have a request fulfilled so quickly. Many thanks again; you're most appreciated!
BTW, you say you have roots in Fremont--is that Iowa or Nebraska? If NE, I'm cousins to the Garfields, who had a pretty large family there until fairly recently.
If I can return the favor in Denver area, don't hesitate to ask.

Orson N Perkins
Kathy and Kent,

I added the bio information about Orson N. Perkins' Civil War service. Thanks.

Yes, you may use the headstone photo any way you wish. I appreciate being credited as the photographer. Thanks for asking and for telling me how you are going to use it. It's nice to know how others are benefiting from the work I've done!
