I am a library media specialist at a public high school. During my studies as a graduate student I practiced my research skills by working on all branches of my family tree.
My surnames include but are not limited to Cottrell, Stipe, McPheeters, Nelson, Riechard, Hollenback, Jennings, Lemon, Robards, Roach, Riley, Laird, Spry, Farr, Lynn, Ogden, Watkins, Cornelius, James, Cook, Hodgson/Hodson, Pabst, Wright, Wells, Willis, Hinnish, and Donahue.
Although I am not related by blood to the Tompkins or Lear families of Ralls County, Missouri I research these families in honor of my Great Aunt Mallie Pearl Tompkins Laird. There are no descendants for her husband, herself or any of her siblings. My goal is that her family not be forgotten. The surnames I work on for my Aunt Mallie's family are Tompkins, Lear, some Strode and some Maddox. | |

Two Harbors is 26 miles East of Duluth. It is a lovely town. I work for the CN railroad that services both the Two Harbors Docks and the Duluth Docks, as well as the mines in Northern MN.
Old New London is just to the west of the on- ramp to HWY 19 from Hwy 61. There is a grove of trees just off the ramp with the power lines, DOT right of way, cable TV, telephone, and whatever else buried right through it. When they made the right of way for the power, they bulldozed the stones out of the way and laid them in the fence row. Some are visible from the on ramp, but you have to go slow and know where to look. It is disgraceful. I'll let you know how the campaign goes.

Go north out of Hannibal to Clear Creek Road and turn right(north) go about 2 miles.

Believe me when I say that he was an American hero. He earned 7 Air Medals....almost unheard of!

Well, I could cry, Heather...I, too, was fixated on finding this baby, but didn't think I would...guess God was guiding. We don't live any where around there, but were traveling cross-country. If you look at the map on the main page of Mount Olivet Cemetery on FindAGrave, you can make out that it's northern-most roads kinda form the shape of a camel. There are sections inside the camel's head and on both sides of it. Shawanna is inside the camel's head near the back of its neck...you can also see some other markers east of her in the cross shot...Toalson is one. Also, this section is mostly regular adult graves, but that back-of-the-camel's-head where Shawanna is is babies. | | | Christine Masterson

I was driving on HWY 61 South out of Muscatine at Wapello I turned onto Townsend Ave which turns into CR-G62 and drove about 3 or 4 miles. I turned left on to M Ave. and drove about 4 miles and when I crossed 50th street it was about .02 mile. It is out in the country and looked nice. There are many more graves than what is listed on line and many old old stones. We went to several cemeteries in the country that day and I used my GPS to find them all.

I'm not certain where Naomi is buried, although it must be in North Carolina, probably Guilford County, considering that all her children were born there, as were most of John's children with his second wife, Sarah. John and Sarah probably moved to Ohio around 1807. Checking records of the Quaker meetings in Guilford County would be a good place to start to find Naomi. | | | Scott Parkey

From what I have read on the Internet, the Clear Creek MM where John Hodgson is buried was a log cabin in Ohio on the Clinton County/Highland County border. I doubt it would be worth visiting nowadays, there is probably nothing visible there anymore. But you mention the Carolinas; I think it would be really interesting to visit New Garden MM, where John Hodgson was born, Elizabeth Mills is buried, and Thomas Mills was disowned. Its first congregations had plenty of Hodgsons and Millses.
It's great that both One-Eyed John Hodgson and his sister Anna (Hodgson) Cook have extant markers. It looks like Anna has the Quaker style of marker as well, with the dates entirely in numbers rather than mentioning months by names. | | | Scott Parkey

Information on the Hodson/Hodgson family is not particularly difficult to find on the Internet because they have a lot of descendants, although I will caution you that if you find any family trees that trace the family line back farther than George Hodgson (ca. 1701-ca. 1774), they are probably not accurate. My personal family tree includes John here although I got the information from mixed sources, and you should only use my tree as a guide.
As for John himself, I don't know a lot about him besides what I put into his biography on his memorial. I still don't know the exact original location of the Clear Creek Monthly Meeting where he is buried; it moved after he died to Samantha and became Samantha Monthly Meeting. His grave is probably unmarked anyway.
If you are descended from John, then you are also descended from his grandfather Thomas Mills, whose memorial I also made and I see you have already found. Thomas Mills wasn't exactly our most illustrious ancestor, I'm afraid.

7) Benjamin was born 4 April 1883 and was a barber. He died 29 October 1933 in Slater, Saline County, Missouri. He married Lucy R. Wead in Saline County on 7 May 1913.
(8) James Elbert (1888-1950) married Elizabeth Vogel and lived in Chicago where he was a shoe salesman. He died in 1950 in Du Page County, Illinois.
