"A people that takes no pride in the noble achievements of remote ancestors will never achieve anything worthy to be remembered with pride by remote descendents." – Macauley.|
I'm a Homesite Acreage REALTOR in Montgomery County, Texas...working on my Family History when I can...joined F-A-G not long ago and have already had alot of success, I think this is great and would like to applaud all involved!
I am also a Member of the Class of 1979 at St. Frederick CHS (Go WARRIOR'S!) in Monroe, La., and have begun a new project...gathering F-A-G info for all our deceased ALUMNI....and would like to THANK all my fellow WARRIORS for any assistance!!
NO WARRIOR LEFT BEHIND!
...and now I've been vol-recruited by the 75th Ohio Inf (yep, YANKS!), to help get all members of the original CW Regiment located &/or memorialized! This was the unit in which a GGGrand-Uncle, Capt. Thomas J. Wheeler (#22988649) served with until his death in 1863...he died of multiple GSWs inflicted on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg!
NO WARRIOR LEFT BEHIND!
On 1/19/2011 my father, CMDR Thomas J. Powers passed away suddenly....upon hearing the news I immediately sat and began his Memorial (Find A Grave Memorial# 64427239) which I posted to F/B as I was unable to speak of it on the phone. He was very proud of the work I had been doing on Ancestry & F-A-G, both for the Family...and for the "forgotten" CW Vets! He had just visited "Chancellorsville" the day before his death and purchased 2 books for me there, one was "The Last Days of Thomas J. 'Stonewall' Jackson"! RIP Dad.

SUMMER 2011...Frank & Jesse James CAPTURED!
In my TREE!!! My Dad died suddenly in Jan, leaving a lot of unanswered ???s on his maternal side as his mother had died just after his birth, and her mother died when she was only 4, and her mother, when she was 22....3 generations all died young in Ark, away from the Old Kentucky Home!!? Then a 2nd cousin of Dads found me thru F-A-G, who provided a lot of new info that sent me up several of his "lost" maternal lines and resulted in several surprises such as his GGG-Gpa was GEN Jesse Cole Lindsay (KY Militia)! I was excited with this till I discovered his sister was the Grandmother of FRANK & JESSE JAMES....making me their 2nd (4x's) Cousin!!! Then also there was my GGG-Uncle, COL John Anthony Lindsay (CSA-Ark), #75652636, who served GEN Sterling Price in the 1864 MO Campaign as his Guide!!! I finally found those REBELS in the woodpile I've been in search of all my life...in SPADES!!! Iiiiiiieeeee!!!
My Dad never knew any of this....DA*N!
Last words of a mortally wounded 20yr old Confederate Officer: "No, I am done for. You can do me no good. Save yourselves and tell Pa good-bye and I died right. I did my duty. I died at my post." ~RIP Sir

Hi John, Thank you for the merged two Memorial's on Pvt. Robert Henry Madden. I have some clues on his mother Esther as her name continues to be used into the 1900's. She must have touched the families greatly. When I get more valid proof of Esther maiden name, I will share with you. Thank you greatly for all that you do to honor each Person individually on their Memorial's. You are a blessing to Find A Grave. Carolyn

Thank you for finding my grandfather, Abraham COLE's grave site :) I would love to manage his memorial; but it looks like he may also be your grandfather.
I hope you don't mind me asking anyhow :)
Some important questions:
Did you actually see his inscribed tombstone? Or was the information taken from your sited source?
My records show our surname spelled COALE/COAL. I am thinking the compiler of your source book compiled all the spellings under COLE aka COLE/COALE/COAL.
Which of his children do you descend from and do you know if our grandmother is also buried there?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
|Margie Montag||Old Lancaster Burial Ground|
I have pursued your photo request. The Old Lancaster Burial Ground no longer exists as a cemetery. Many of the people interred there were moved to Forest Rose Cemetery or Elmwood Cemetery. Some families relocated loved ones' remains to other cemeteries in and out of state. Unfortunately, I am unable to verify that your relative was re-interred at Forest Rose or at Elmwood using cemetery readings of the Fairfield County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Please contact FCCOGS at fairfieldgenealogy.org for more information.
|Margie Montag||Old City Burial Ground|
The old City (Lancaster) Burial Ground/Old Methodist Cemetery no longer exists. In 1907, the remains were to be moved. Many were moved to Elmwood or Forest Rose Cemeteries in Lancaster. Contact the Fairfield County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society for more information.

FYI, I found the grave site of Capt. Benjamin D. Parks in Winchester National Cemetery, Winchester, VA and posted the photo I took to his VA memorial page (56955826) as well as to his Iowa memorial page (11223844).

Hello, i was not aware he had two Memorial's. I have done his bio. If I knew he had 2, then they should be merged, correct?
The other Contributor, is inactive, I did request his Memorial be transferred to me. I apologize for my oversight, did not notice there were two. Suggestions on what I need to do on the other Memorial? Thank You.

Hi - thanks for all the work you do on behalf of Veterans of all wars.
With regard to the subject who is my 1st cousin 3x removed. You have listed him as Killed in Action - yet the U.S. Registers of Deaths of Volunteers 1861-1865 lists his death as chr diarrhoea. (chronic diarrhea). While no doubt it was contracted during his time of battle.

Hey Vince - I found one that you might want to add to your virtual cemetery. Hope all is well - Jim

|Brian Knoff||Connection Request|
My connection to the General is through Rev. Robert Sailee James, the father of both Jesse Woodson James (famous outlaw) and grandmother of the General and Jesse's sister, Susan Lavenia James. My overall connection comes from the Woodson-Fikes-Blassingame line.

Hey Vince - wanted to give you a heads up on this one. I found his veteran's marker in Alexander Cemetery (Athens County, OH) which is over 10 miles away from Nye Cemetery. There IS a space behind his marker that looks like someone's buried there - not sure what to make of it but wanted you to know.
