RE: Pearce Family Hatting
Paul, I'm not too familiar with the Hatting trade in Danbury/Bethel area, I do know there were a lot of hatting factories and most of my family worked for the Lee Hatting Co. in Bethel, I think. Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Years ago my grandfather explained the whole hatting process to me but that was back in spring of 1980 and I don't remember it. He did play semi-pro baseball for the Lee Hatting Co. until he contracted Tuberculosis in the early to mid 1930s, he did spend 2 years in a sanatorium in Shelton, CT where he had one lung removed due to the disease and could not return to hatting business. Keep in touch, I'm getting ready to embark on more Pearce family research, Jim Pearce's great grandfather was my gr., gr., gr., grandmothers sister and their family were hatters in Richmond, VA before the Civil War, that's what attracted Jim's great grandfather to Bethel after being discharged from the 15th Virginia Infantry (Confederate). His sister married Charles J. Rockwell, blacksmith for P.T. Barnum. I'm drifting again, sorry babbling on. Mike
