Gibbs connection
Hi Lorraine,

I descend from Rev John Gibbs. William J Gibbs is on the 1850 & 60 census of Al. I have DNA proof of the connection. Wm. J died in the Civil War. He has a Nancy A. living with him on both census records. We are not sure she is a Gibbs, but that is what it looks like on the census. It could be a mistake on the part of the census taker. Wm. J's wife is Winny Cranford and her parents lived in the same area that William J and his uncle James lived in -Blount Co. Al. I believe Bryant came to this area first.
We are pretty sure Wm J is a grandson of Rev JOhn, but if Nancy A is his mother, she had him when she was about 41, sort of old to have a baby in those days. If she is his mother, her husband was dead by the 1850 census.
Anything you can share about this Wm J would be greatly appreciated by me and several others looking for his parents.
We have a match with the family of a John Martin Gibbs b 1807. We can find very little on him but he lived in Athens, Mc Minn Co. TN. His family went to TX and this is were we have lost track of him.
Thank you, Anita Sue Gates
