Charles Albes

People and Things from The (Cullman Alabama Tribune, 1877-1898

November 24, 1892

Sad Accident. Charles Albes Loses His Life Attending to Duties around His Gin. Mr. Charles Albes, who lived four miles west of Cullman, was accidentally killed last Friday. He was assisting in bailing cotton when the rope broke which caused the lever to fly back and strike him, killing him almost instantly.

Mr. Albes was one of Cullman County’s old and honored citizens, having located here in 1874, and was respected for his manly deportment in both public and private life. He was twice chosen as county commissioner, and his work as a public officer stands on this county records unimpeachable. As a private citizen, all who knew him, spoke of him in the highest terms.

The funeral took place last Sunday afternoon, and the last of this good man was laid away in the Protestant Cemetery. The procession was over a mile in length and composed of our best citizens. The G. A. R. Post, of this city, honored the last remains of their brother in a manner befitting true soldiers.

The deceased was a brother of Henry Albes, proprietor of Hotel Bismark, Decatur, Ala. {Charles Albes, buried Cullman City Cemetery, no dates recorded}

Yours truly,
Rick Weber

Shadrack Adams
Hi there,
I have been doing some genealogy research and found your information and picture about Shadrack Starkey Adams buried in Cullman, AL. Do you have any other information about him? (Father/mother and things like that?)

Elijah and Frances Swan
Hello, Kathline! I am a great-granddaughter of Elijah Swan through their daughter, Maryetta Allred Stricklin. I noticed that there wasn`t a picture of them, so I added one. I hope that is OK with you and you and others will enjoy sharing it. I also added a group picture of their sons. I have individual pictures of their daughters and one other one of Elijah when he is older, if you are interested. I don`t know if you are one of the descendants, but, if you are, you might like to see them. If we don`t share and identify our old pictures, they may soon be lost, and that would be a shame. Let me know and thanks for everything you have done! Gwendolyn

Hi - my name is Jon Purcell. I am an avid indexer and have been indexing Iowa State Grave Registration records. I uploaded a registration for a Harold Thompson, I hope that is okay.

Corinth Cemetery West

I've added some photos of headstones to some of your memorials at Corinth. They already had marker pictures, but those aren't very clear due to lighting/time of day.

If you don't want mine on there, let me know and I'll take them back down. Don't want to offend/step on your toes. Just thought I'd offer the updated pics since I had them. :-)

And if there are any other plots I didn't add photos to that you'd like an updated picture for, just tell me. I've probably got shots of almost all of the headstones.
