Col. May Civil War Photo
Are you related to Col. Reuben May? I have discovered in my grandparents scrapbook a packet of Civil War era photos, with one named as Col. May. When I looked up info. I ran across Col. Reuben and noted that he fought at Vicksburg, and a couple of other battles as my great-grandfather from Wisconsin did. I've tried comparing the photo I have with the one shown on this website, and it does look like him. He is also wearing a sash and has a sword that looks like those shown in another site about him I ran across. I'd like to show the pic. to someone who is related or knows more about him. Can you help me out?

My great-grandfather was Israel Jason Cannon who fought with the 23rd Wisconsin at Vicksburg, MS, and Sabine Crossroads, where he was captured. He died in the Veterans Home in King, Waupaca Co. WI at age 101.

Marion
my CSA ancestor
Dear Mr. Hatcher,
Perhaps you can help me find or know someone to contact, regarding my great grand uncle, Francis Marion Fugate.

He was born in 1822 in Pendleton Co. KY and enlisted in Company C, Kentucky 1st Infantry Regiment under Capt. Desha. He was captured at the Battle of Farmington, TN under Gen. Joseph Wheeler and imprisoned at Camp Morton in Indianapolis.

He was released from that prison taking the oath on 24 Jan. 1864. From there I lose him. He does not appear in the 1870 census. However in an estate payout in Logan Co. KY dated June 1870, there was a payout of $40 to F.M. Fugate. I assume that is the same person but there is no other evidence. He was the first Marion in my Fugate family and there have been twelve other men named Marion since him.
Thank you, Marion Fugate

Thank you, corrections made. I copied the text from a book and someone else added the pictures. The small rounded stone is the footstone. I notice that the shield is pointed at the top and you cannot see the top of the marker. You can tell the footstone by the size of the leaves. So I am not attributing his service to either side at this time.

RE: West Prestonsburg Cemetery
Thanks for the info. It seems even our larger municipal cemeteries are deteriorating rapidly. I will pass the info on. marji

RE: West Prestonsburg Cemetery
Thank you for your response. Your photos are quite different from those posted on the Kentucky Genealogy Facebook page. I assumed that through KY law, someone in the County must be responsible. Answers are not forthcoming. Appreciate your help. marji

Hi Sam,
Thanks for sending birth and death dates for the memorial for Murdock Gillis. I'm just not sure that they are correct. He fought for CSA and your dates make him three years old. Please send correct dates and I will enter them for you.

You sent:
Date of Birth 1837
Date of Death 1840
