I was born and raised in the Wesley Chapel Community in Houston County. My father, Tommie Johnson is buried in Wesley Chapel. I still miss him. If you would like the leave him a flower, please do so. He was a wonderful man. My great-grandmother Anne Lightfoot,is buried in Widnes, England. She passed away not long after my Mother came to Texas.|
I am also the ggggrandaughter of Captain Samuel Harrison Bowen, and also James Jennings. Who both lived when the Tea Party first sprang into action.
I really enjoy the history of Houston County, right now I am trying to get all the many stone gardens photographed in Houston County. Also I am a dedicated amatuer History Buff. I love The Houston County Museum.
"Nothing is ended until it is forgotten...."
I believe very strongly in cemetery preservation. Cemeteries in most cases are the only history of those that came before us. Like rare books in a library once it's lost it's lost forever.My only intention is to create a HISTORICAL RECORDING of those who are "Gone, but not Forgotten" before their tombstones are lost forever. This is copied from a fellow graver: "Get out and photograph memorials while they are still readable. This site is primarily for GRAVE photos not genealogy, preserve those memories that are quickly fading."
Be sure to hit the edit tab, if you see anything I need to correct.
For those who wonder about such things, when the number of memorials managed is higher than the number of memorials created , this is due to a few members who decided to transfer their memorials to multiple findagrave contributors . . . and I was honored to be one of the contributors trusted to look after some of those memorials.
FROM THE FAQS:
How do I clean a headstone or grave marker?
Unless you are related to the interred on the headstone in question, DO NOT do anything to the headstone.
I am happy to share ANYTHING that I post. I have no crazy rules, My pictures are your pictures. Feel free to beg, borrow, steal with no intent to return. I take pictures of headstones out of kindness ... not for my ego or for the "numbers."
If anyone has any stories or information on any of my memorials, please let me know.Every person that has lived has a story to tell.I would like to know those stories. I think that every personshould have their life remembered.Anything at all is not to small, when it comes to a person's life.
THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
By Thelma Greene Reagan
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.
~~~IN GOD WE TRUST~~~
|Charles E. Carroll||J.F. Rogers of Anderson County|
I saw that you had visited the memorial of J.F. Rogers. I updated the memorial with photos and gps for the cemetery if you are interested.
Zebedee Gossett is listed as being buried in the Socorro, NM Confederate Cemetery which is now only a neighborhood lot containing trash and debris. Go to http://www.soldiersforgotten.com to see where he is buried.
Hi Carol, Thanks for the welcome note.
Would you remove your picture of the headstone for Earl Newton in Antioch Cemetery you posted. That one is for his son.
Are you located in Lovelady where the deer feeders are on 230. If so I'd like to stop by one day and chat some.
|Ruby Smith Hassell||RE: William Mansel|
Find A Grave #122288261. Sorry, I forgot the most important detail. Thanks
|Ruby Smith Hassell||William Mansel|
Is there a tombstone at Ebenezer for Mr. Mansel? I don't remember seeing one for him when I surveyed the cemetery. Did he fight in the Civil War and if so under what name? Just trying to give him credit for his services as it has been brought to my attention that I did not list all the Civil War Veterans that are buried there. That was bad as my own Great-grandfather was one of them. Thanks!
|Jane Newton||Jesse Allen Davis|
Jesse Allen's date of birth was Oct 14, 1949. Allen spent a lot of time with my grandmother, Edna Earl Scott Jones. Allen's mother came and got him from Granny's house and a couple days later, Granny got the call that Allen had drowned in a mud puddle. I have not seen a death certificate yet, but this is the story we have been told for years.
In reviewing the headstone for Houston Betts
#9167656, I noticed the type written information shows he died in 1936. But if you look at the date on the headstone in shows 1935. I thought you may what to update the page.
Thank you for sending me the obit for Charlotte. I'll be going to Crockett next month and I'm planning to find a nice photo of her in my grandma's photo albums!
|Surching||RE: Robert West|
Uh Oh! Maybe Find a Grave can correct it?
|Bettie||John Wesley Kelley|
Thank you Carol for the parent links.
I found Mr Kelley on Familysearch and it listed his father as John but it listed his mother as Bertha, I think. Anyway, it was not Vinnie.
I added your information to his memorial but did not link them. If you are able to verify his parents, please let me know. Right now I am not able to spend as much time on Find A Grave as I would like.
I appreciate your taking your time to improve Mr Kelly's memorial.
