Dear Ancestor,

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
In this field of green.
The name and date are chiseled out
For all the world to see.

It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I'd exist,
You died long before I was born.

Yet we are of one, you and I,
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the life you lived
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

Strangers in the Box
By Pamela A. Harazim

Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white,
Faces proud, still, serene.
I wish I knew the people,
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
Are lost among my socks.
I wonder what their lives were like.
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where, when,
These faces of my heritage
Would come to life again.
Could this become the fate
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories
Someday to be tossed away?
Make time to save your pictures,
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box.

"If you could see your ancestors
All standing in a row,
There might be some of them, perhaps,
You wouldn't want to know.

But, here's another question, which
Requires another view,
If you could meet your ancestors,
Would they be proud of you?"

Barrett relatives
I see that you added a page for Bess A Barrett in Collinsville. She is my children's grandmother. I have pictures, etc. that could be added, but I am new to Find a Grave and do not know how to help with information.

I can tell you that she and Walter Donald Barrett had one son, Stephen Don (9/2/54), and two grandchildren, Thomas Don (2/6/76) and Jamie Michelle Barrett Rogers (9/26/78)

You can email me for more family information. She was one of 10 children.

Files Valley Cemetery
This relates to the status of the cemetery in Files Valley, TX. In the 1970s, a board was established to oversee maintenance of the cemetery. All of the board members are now deceased. In order to insure some level of maintenance going forward, a new board should be established. A meeting seems necessary to reestablish the board and the first group to make contact with, before going to the general population of the community, in my opinion, should be those FindAGrave Contributors who have shown an interest and demonstrated some effort to preserve the memory of those interred there. If you have experience in managing small cemeteries and/or the interest to participate in this process, please contact me via email at

Regards and thanks for all your work for FindAGrave.

Hartman Family
I am so sorry to hear about your husband.
I too lost mine and Find A Grave has been a comfort.
I was wondering if you are related to the Hartmans that you have posted.
They are my family and I would love to have them transferred to me if they are not your relatives.
If they are your relatives, I would like to contact you again.
Please let me know.

Rev. Edward F. Steiner
Memorial# 110578116

I discovered that I inadvertantly double posted a memorial for Mary Elizabeth "Lida" Greene-Bower.

Your memorial is Memorial# 110578116.
Mine is Memorial# 129589688.

I'm willing to take mine down, but I have added a lot of links. I don't know which way to go here. Would you prefer I send you all the links to your site and you update yours, or would you prefer something else.

You posted originally, so I bow to your decision.
