Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been interested in family history since 1978 and have enjoyed doing family research since that time. I love this website and have been adding memorials for our family. I hope, if you view any of my memorials you will contact me so I can share what ever information I might have. Some of my family memorials I have listed, not knowing the cemetery, in hopes someone who sees them may be able to tell me. I also have been adding memeorials for my daughter's in-laws family and some from the local cemeteries. So either way, I can possibly tell you something about a number of my memorials. I welcome your questions, comments, corrections etc. I have met some really nice and helpfull people through Find A Grave. It is my most sincere desire to help someone add new data to their research so plese feel free to contact me.

Alva Edison Cooley Memorial# 48159142
Hi again Rita. I just keep showing up like a bad penny. LOL. Here is the obit from the Carroll News for Mr. Cooley dated March 22, 1984. It contains his death date along with some other great information. I thought you might like to include it with his memorial since he was such a great contributor to the history of Hillsville, VA. Thanks! -Susan

A. E. Cooley Dead At The Age of 93

Alva Edison Cooley, 93, died March 13 in Twin County Community Hospital.
He was the first mayor of Hillsville, serving one term under the 1926 charter.
In 1938, he was appointed a Trial Justice and served in that capacity and
as County Judge until 1958.
Funeral services were conducted March 15 at Hillsville Christian Church
by the Rev. Charles Mackey. Burial was in Northend Cemetery, Hillsville.
Graveside military rites were conducted by members of VFW Post 1115.
Cooley was a native of the Coal Creek section of Carroll County and
was a son of the late William Rufus and Mary Ellen Cox Cooley. He
attended elementary schools at Coal Creek and Woodlawn and high
school in Pulaski. He attended the University of Virginia and received
his law degree in 1917.
He was drafted into the army almost immediately after graduation and
served in the 80th Division in France during World War I.
After his discharge, Cooley opened an office in Galax and practiced law
there until 1922. He moved his office to Hillsville later. Also in 1922, he
married the former Mary Kate McGlothlin. She is now deceased.
Cooley served as Appeal Agent for the Draft Board during World
War II and was Civil Defense Coordinator for the county. He served the
Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department as chief for a time and served
VFW Post 1115 as commander. He also was the last of the charter
members of the local Post.
Cooley was a member of the Virginia Bar for 62 years. He authored
books dealing primarily with religious matters.
Surviving are two sons, Raleigh Cooley, a Hillsville attorney and
General District Court Judge George B. Cooley Sr. a daughter,
Mrs. Kenneth (Ellen) Benartz of California; a sister Grace Hawks of
Lambsburg; four grandsons and one great grandson."

Duplicate
Hi Rita, I unknowingly created a duplicate of a record you already had, possibly because your record was from 2010, and she just recently deceased. At any rate, Virginia Lee Slemp Agnew # 59787028 is your memorial number. The number for the memorial I created is 154885393. I have some information on mine that is not contained on yours. If you would like to copy that information over to yours and let me know when you have that completed, I will delete my memorial. Thanks!
Success in your searches,
Susan

Quinn's at St. Stephen's
Rita: they are both transferred, there are other Quinn's in this cemetery that I entered, I will be happy to transfer them if you have a connection as well. My Mom grew up in Bridgewater, but moved to Sioux Falls after they lost their farms during the Depression. My great, great grandparents are buried here as well.

RE: Wilford McKale
I have his death record would you like me to post it on his memorial or send it to you?? I would suggest to note No Marker on his bio. I did check with the cemetery records and he not listed.
I'm not sure if McKale have anything to do with this other plot but what I find interesting that right next to them is plot that has all babies but he is not in there either. I wonder if it may had been done in his honor? I kinda like to think it was being right next to them. They are all dated 50's to 80's It was full of leaves so I plan on going out again hopefully before the snows falls take a better pic, they were out that day taking care of leaves I do have an pic but I did go thru and he wasn't in that plot either. I would think he either under the Monument or between the grandparents. I did take some pictures so if you would like I can send them to your email. Take care MJ
