"A cemetery . . . tells the story of the past, not of its institutions, or its wars, or its ideas, but of its individual lives, -- of its men and women and children, and of its household. It is silent, but eloquent; it is common, but it is unique."
-Joseph Anderson, American Clergyman 1836 - 1916

Thank you
Thanks so much for leaving a memento for my son, Brad...very sweet of you.

I visited your gr grandmother, Mary Cecelia - notice her mother was Irish - my maternal line is O'Brien.

Her wedding announcement was wonderful, the Wedding Ceremony being described as "the service that united in the holy and indissoluble bonds of wedlock - two souls with but a single thought; two hearts that beat as one."

After 53 great years of our own marriage, I thought what a blessing it would be if every couple had that kind relationship! (and understood it to be "indissoluble").

Thanks again for stopping by; if I can ever help with pedigree research, be happy to - [I'm not so good at photographs!] ~Cheers, Shirleen

I wonder if they cremated Dennis ? You'd need to know what they did with the ashes.

I have an inlaw who was cremated so I attached his name to a (I picked) local cemetery in the county where he died and attached his memorial with it, but I made a note stressing that readers please do not contact the cemetery about him because he was cremated - they have no record of him.

Van Vorst Sec 83 lot 59 Albany Rural Cem
Hi;
The spelling on the stone was Van Voorst. If you go to http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2226&enc=1 you can find the cemetery card for Alvin Charles Van Voorst who died in 1944, and it shows the lot and section numbers. I tried to paste the stone photo here, but could not.
Best
Tom

Hi;
I found a Van Voorst stone in Sect 83, lot 59, but there are only 3 people listed on it, so the ones you requested are unmarked. You might place a cemetery card on your listing.
Alvin C Van Voorst
Katherine M, his wife
George O their son are the only people listed on the stone.

Hi Georgia......sorry so long in replying....Over a year. My old computer got hacked and just got a Kindle for now so I can still maintain this for Grandpa. Thanks so much for the ki d suggestion re: My dear uncles page and telling me how to go about getting it transferred to me. How nice of you to take the time to find all that out for me. It is very late tonight but I was checking my messages and wanted to get back to you. I will try it tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thanks.....Tiffany

RE: Your mom
I really don't remember how I ran into it. I was surprised for sure. Talk about luck. I still miss them a lot and talk to them every day. That was very nice for you to do that. I put some flowers there and left a note. Went back there yesterday and took it off thinking maybe I should not be there that maybe it was your place to go. Something that you did. Don't go on my e-mail a lot so I just saw this note from you today. Have started going back on it a couple of weeks ago, found some distant relatives so I need to check it more often. Did all that make sense? Today was deleting a lot of mail and saw your note. Was surprised. I'm on Facebook with friends from high school and other friends. Starting to slow down on that though. I don't have time to stay on it a lot like some do. I don't remember the name of that restaurant that I briefly saw you in that day when we were in Eureka for my Dad. I hope your in good health and your family. Nice hearing from you. Peggy

Thank you for leaving the interesting story about 2nd Lt. Dittman. I just read a new book Fireball about Lombard and the crash and your story enhanced what I already read. You did a lovely job.

It could be him. Let me know if you can verify. I love linking my listings to their parents.

RE: Mary G. MacRae Van Vorst
Thanks, the dates and location seem to fit, but her passport application said her father's middle initial was H.
