Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Vickie. I grew up in Swannanoa, N.C. and now I live in Asheville. I enjoy researching family history and walking through cemeteries to read stones. Everyone deserves to be remembered. Someone somewhere loved them. Thanks to the great contributors here at Find a Grave, I have been able to see the graves of many family members that I would have never seen if it wasn't for their generosity. It is so nice to be able to visit a loved one's grave and not even leave the house.

If any of my memorials contain errors, or if you have information to add, or you wish for a memorial to be deleted, please send me a message or an edit. All memorials are done with the utmost respect of those who have passed on and those of us left behind.

Graveyards

When my soul is restless
And things seem out of line,
I visit an old graveyard
To take a mystical step back in time.

I find the oldest tombstones
Then read the messages there;
I consider what their days had been
And how our lives in ways compare.

We all have lived though heartaches
As well as episodes of fun;
Surviving loss of loved ones,
And rewarded for a job well done.

Sometimes if I'm very still
I can hear what they have to say
And feel them reaching out to me
Grateful for my momentary stay.

Edits and Corrections
Just to be clear, it will only prevent you from sending an edit if you are using the new edit system. I still receive a LOT of old school corrections through email. I hope you don't stop sending corrections and from time to time this may happen as I do a lot of research in Buncombe, Haywood, Macon, Lincoln, Wake and other NC counties. Thanks - enjoy your Sunday. Edits and Corrections
Before you assume I'm doing something shady when I decline an update, please understand that you're not the only one who submits corrections on my memorials. If someone else has submitted information and I process their edit, then a subsequent edit will show up as 'No Change', which I decline because the memorial is already up to date. Additionally, I actively research my memorials and it is entirely possible that we were working on the same line. LG

Incorrect parent linkage
I need to point out a mistake that I believe that you have made on your memorial for Dorothy "Pat" Chapman Thompson (# 136762331). You have linked Alice Catherine (McCoy) Morris (# 64572765) as her mother, but that is wrong. Alice was married only once, to Earle Hedderich Morris (# 64572892). Please drop me a note after you fix this. Thanks.

Thank you:-)
thank you for information, I hate that they won't do it. But at least she is listed as my grandfathers sister. How long does it usually take to get reply I'm still waiting on his last brother to either be transferred or at least added as a sibling. It's been about 2 weeks now.

Sincerely,

janet

Samuel Cleveland Oates
Hello, Are you related to this branch of the Oates family? Samuel was the son of my grandmother's half sister. I found a picture of a girl whose name was Frances Stobaugh and written on the back is 'Grandma's half sister's granddaughter'. I have been unable to find where this person fits. Thanks so much and God bless. ML McGowen

RE: Animated clip art and flowers
thank you:-) yes that makes perfect sense. I thought perhaps there was a separate website where the more elaborate clip art had to be purchased.
Sincerely,
janet

Johanah Oates
She was my mother's mother's mother's mother; had four children, three boys and a girl. She died in approximately 1880 when my GGM was just 3 years old. I guess we are very distant cousins?

Hi,
Where do you get the animated clip art and flowers? I would like to add one of those Marine art like on my uncle John to another uncles site.

Sincerely,

RE: Laurel Grove info
Well, working with all the deceased in any given cemetery, I run across some contributors who bristle when they see an edit. Most contributors who are researching "just their families" stay within those families and don't stray into other people's links or "business". But with the county work we do (entire cemetery survey), it sometimes is part of it. Proofing a cemetery on findagrave sometimes leads to new friends...sometimes to adversaries, especially when duplicates show up. It's part of the bigger picture I suppose. But as long as I have miles between me and another's harsh words, that's all it is-harsh words. I suppose it makes a person stronger, eh? It's all done with the purpose of preservation and accuracy...Happy graving to you and be safe out in the field.
