Bio and Links
Bio Photo I began family genealogy in the 1980's and I have become the family historian/genealogist for my mother, father and husband's families. I have visited a lot of graves, libraries, court houses and achieve facilities in order to research our families. When adding my family members to the findagrave website, I will include the information from family members, transcribed documents and my hypothesis of documents. Please be advised that the information posted on the grave sites have been checked as far as possible but it is in no way guaranteed to be 100% accurate. If you find a mistake, it has not been intentional and I would very much appreciate notification so the mistakes can be corrected. I do work a full time job and spend a lot of time with my grandchildren so if you send me information, please do not get upset if I do not respond immediately.
I really appreciate all of the hard work going into this website as our heritage needs to be preserved and so many graves/records are being lost for so many different reasons.

Antioch Cemetery
Dear Sherry,

Thank you for all the work you have done on Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Kershaw County. You have taken pictures and added listings for many of my relatives. My great-grandmother Martha Kizzie Davis is my closest ancestor buried there.
When I visited Antioch, I noticed some graves across the driveway. I was wondering if you know who is buried there. Is it a community cemetery for people who lived at Antioch?

How do you document the records when someone has a marker in TWO cemeteries?

My father's cousin Thomas Harvey LeGrand's first wife is buriedat Jackson Creek Church Cemetery and his name is on the marker because the plan was for him to be buried there with her.

He remarried at some point and I quess his plans changed. He is buried in Sawney Creek Baptist Church Cemetery and his 2nd wife is to be buried there with him.

I have copied his obit below for your records.

I attended the service and needless to say his only daughter was not happy with this. Because not Only was he not being buried with the first wife, she was not mentioned in the service or the obituary.

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Thomas Harvey LeGrand, 91, will be held on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dean Reynolds will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. LeGrand passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Lonnie T. LeGrand and Gertrude Medlin MeGrand. He served in the United States Army Air Corp and retired after many years in sales. He was a member of Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church and was a Mason.
Surviving are his wife, Erline M. LeGrand; daughter Gloria Sullivan Pruitt of Columbia; step-son, Bernie Adkins (Corey) of Columbia; stepdaughter, Linda Sue Frye (Phillip) of Blythewood; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Correction 4 Jackson Creek

I have another correction that needs to be made please.

Ernest Arthur LeGrand - you show being born Jun 1, 1886. He was actually born on 13 Jan 1897 and was John Edward LeGrand's TWIN. He died 27 Dec 1901 just 2 weeks shy of his 5th birthday.

4 of John Edward LeGrand's children are still living (2 died within the last two years). John Edward LeGrand was my fathers 1st cousin and I have lunch with many of the "cousins" once a month. We will actually be meeting at Jackson Creek Church for lunch in the fellowship hall this coming Thursday Feb 18, 2016.

Corrections 4 Jackson Creek

My aunt Rebecca Prewitt Kittrell and my grandparents Caroline LeGrand Prewitt, and Albert Lee Prewitt are all buried at Jackson Creek.

You have Prewitt spelled incorrectly - you have Prewett - the correct spelling is Prewitt.

My aunt Becky's full name is Josephine Rebecca Prewitt Kittrell.

ALso, my grandmother's name is Laura Caroline LeGrand Prewitt - You have her listed as Carolyn.
She did have a nick name "Carrie".

Please correct the spelling errors as this will be a big help with to those searching for Prewitts. Please correct my grandmothers name to Caroline. Thank You!

Find a grave
Thank you for all the posting of tombstones that you do. The majority of my life kinfolk are buried in Kershaw and
Lancaster Counties and I live in South Georgia. You save me a 6 hour trip and motel bill for the ones I need.

Many SC and NC names as my parents both had very large families as well as my husband.
Sherry, I would personally like to thank you for your helping others through your work with Find A Grave. I, too, started on my genealogy journey in the 1980's and I am still working. I am no longer, however able to visit the different places I used to (courthouses, libraries, cemeteries and such). I rely very much on Find A Grave, census records and Ancestry, Family Search, etc. I hope you won't mind my making copies of your photos for my family files. I am trying hard to leave as much verified info as I can on Ancestry and Family Tree Maker in order for my descendants and others connected may see their heritage. God bless you in all your efforts to help others through your work.
