RE: Col. Melancton Smith

I think what the issue may be that you linked Melancton Smith III's grandmother as his wife. The photo you posted of his grave clearly shows he was Admiral Smith, born in 1810 and died in 1893.

Hi Jean,

Are you saying that the dates for Melancton Smith in the BAGS listing are incorrect?

I haven't seen anything from John Weingarden. The Woodlawn list date for Smith match the bio. The birth year of 1810 would have made him a little young for the War of 1812. :-)

I've added her maiden name. Also, I've been on touch with Daniel Allen, re: Alvin Martin. The Martin-LaPlante branch in my family tree, I'm not 100% sure about. But I decided to go ahead & explore that line, and leave it attached to my tree. I'd be happy to transfer this memorial or any others to you, if you'd like? Marion

Dear Jeanne:
Thank you for capturing photos of my great-aunt, the former Marie Clara Benoit. After years of searching I discovered she had joined the Sisters of Charity and it was my good fortune that recently 'Sassythor' identified Clara's grave. Your kind effort in obtaining the photos is appreciated by our extended family.

Thanks so much for the photograph. Based on this information, I will have to check the link to her purported husband, Donald. Best Regards, Kevin Jackson
