BTW, I've been trying, on occasion, to interest someone in the NJ-based Titanic International Society with a proposal to "adopt" the Hardy gravesite as they have done with other Titanic survivors and victims but, so far, nothing. From what I gathered on a genealogy website some time ago, there appear to be family still living, but they either live at some distance or just don't visit the gravesite, because every time I've managed to stop by Restland, the plaque has either sunk below grade, or was about to! As you can tell from the condition of the plaque in that photo I posted, my wife and I had to tear out quite a bit of encroaching dirt and grass and to get that picture. That is a much older section of the cemetery and, yet, it looks almost unused; God only knows how many other submerged plaques one would find by taking a stroll through there with a metal detector!
Note: I was born and raised in NJ, but moved to the Atlanta area over 15 years ago. I have many family members buried in Restland (including my father, John Richard Andrews) and many more just on the other side of the tree line in Gate of Heaven, so when travel north for any reason, I try to make time to stop at both locations.
RE: WS Newell The photo is not colorized and was taken just about a year ago. Even though the cemetery is now a park, the city has taken to placing small markers when it requested by family. That seems to be what happened here.
The cemetery/park is kind of a strange place. It is a park in every sense of the word but is dotted with these markers all over it. It is cool that the city has not forgotten the cemetery fact though.
Kennicott's Thank you for adding Anna's parents. No, I'm not family, but I do like to keep my memorials connected as best I can. I think if I can help even one person find something, it's a little victory :)
Do you know how to contact Julio Espinoza's family? I have a relative who was his commanding officer when he died and was with him. He is still alive and would like to speak to Julio's family if possible. Thanks.
