I am a Funeral Director in New Albany, MS. I have lived in New Albany since 10-73. A few years ago I got interested in looking up the old abandoned cemeteries in Union County. Then I decided to look up all the cemeteries not only in Union County, where I live, but also in Benton County, where I grew up, Tippah County, where my wife grew up, and Pontotoc County, where I have worked with a funeral home and worked services in a number of cemeteries. I have identified 112 cemeteries in Union County (8 of which the markers are destroyed and/or the exact location is unknown) and have been in and have pics of 100 of them. I have identified 194 cemeteries in Tippah County (14 of which the markers are destroyed and/or the exact location is unknown) and have been in and have pics of 155 of them. I have identified 151 cemeteries in Pontotoc County (5 of which the markers are destroyed and/or the exact location is unknown) and have been in and have pics of 135 of them. I have tentatively identified 195 cemeteries in Benton County. I can't be sure at this point of the exact number because some of the cemeteries I have identified may have the same name. I have been in and have pics of 97 of them. I have added Choctaw County to this list since that's where my mother grew up and I have quite a number of relatives buried there. At this time I have been unable to determine the total number of cemeteries in Choctaw County. I have, at this time, been in and have pics of 84 cemeteries. When I am through I plan to have been in and have pics of every identified cemetery in Union, Tippah, Benton, Pontotoc, and Choctaw Counties (except those which the markers are destroyed and the exact location is unknown).|

Thanks so much for the email. I do remember having a hard time finding the location so is is quite possible. I am down and out with the flu right now but hope to take a look at it next week. Thanks so much for the catch!
|Victoria Robbins||Thank you!|
Hi Tom! Just wanted to express my gratitude for posting all of this info on so many people that you don't know. I found it so helpful when trying to add to my family tree! Victoria from Fallston, MD.

Thomas, You have added a cemetery that was already there in Find a Grave. You have 42 graves in a cemetery of 314.
|Jane Ayres||Miller-Saxton Cemetery in Pontotoc County|
Murdock Martin b. 7/23/1827 d. 2/14/1894 came up as an ancestry hint. He is supposed to be buried next to his first wife, Margaret Miller. Do you have any info on who is buried in the cemetery? I've written to the person who entered him into Find A Grave and hope to receive a reply. It's interesting to note that you have also done Tippah County. My husband's ancestors are from Holly Springs. Some are buried in an obscure Ayers-Ferrell Cemetery that is actually Benton County now. They seem to spell Ayres both ways. AYRES is the correct way. I do have photos of most of their headstones. Keep up the good work. It helps us so much in genealogy.

I've moved the people from Marshal Co to the one in Tippah but do not know how to delete the cemetery from Find A Grave. Any ideas?

|Susan Cummings Moss||Old Harmony Church Cemetery|
My name is Susan Cummings Moss. I have just added my gr-gr-grandfather, gr-gr-grandmother and two of their sons including pictures to this information. I just wanted to thank you for adding this cemetery to Find-a-grave. It took me almost a whole day to find it, I think I drove on every road in Pontotoc county. Several years ago I took my aunt to see the graves. She said she had been down that road many times and never knew where it was.
Thank you, Susan Cummings Moss

Thank you Thomas, but I'm in CA and do not know the details of that cemetery.
Please let me know what you can find out.
And again thank you so much for the effort.

Interesting bio. I am curious about Oliver cemetery in Union County, MS. The photo you've attached is dark and looks like the cemetery may be in a forest or overgrown. There are only 10 memorials added for this location. I wonder if this is just a small family plot? I would appreciate any info you can provide me about this particular cemetery. Thank you, Dan Carrier, email@example.com
