I was born at St. Vincent's Orphanage in Chicago. Because of the federal, State and local laws denying adoptees their basic civil rights to their original birth certificates and adoption records, I spent 30 years searching for clues to my biological families by searching libraries for obituaries and for information in old phone books, etc. This entailed a LOT of travel because I did this prior to the explosion of personal computers and online databases and resources for research into genealogy. Unless you are an adoptee, I don't think you will fully understand the extreme joy and connection I experienced when I found the graves of my biological maternal grandparents! And the information contained on those markers led me to finding my maternal half siblings. It also led me to tracing my own ancestry back more than 7 generations. I couldn't be happier if my contributions to Find A Grave can help someone in their genealogy research or in feeling a bit of that connection I felt when I found my biological grandparents' graves.|
I had been posting obituaries I obtained from online sources to the memorials I add to Find-A-Grave. But, Find-A-Grave's FAQ (#89) concerning the posting of such obituaries is rather specific. So, I no longer post such obituaries.

James ... I am so thrilled when I read your bio .. to her your story and know you were able to find and learn where you came from .... I was fortunate to grow up with a large extended family and immediate family ... so I know that joy when I'm able to find other extended family members ... but I can only imagine the joy you must feel and empathize with you. Take care and may you be further blessed.
|Gigi M. Jackson||Thank you|
Hi James - Thank you for linking Gary Johnsen to his father LeRoy Johnsen ... Leroy was married to my 1st cousin Lillian and Gary was her son.

I wonder what Mr. Koch's first name really is (Willard-obituary; William-tombstone). The name dilemma - people get really creative with that, so there's no consistency in terms of Search results. Anyway, Merry Christmas to you, too!

Thank you for the suggestions re: Diane's memorial. I played around with her name for awhile, and ultimately removed the Tessendorf name from the memorial name field, which I hate to do since it's on her tombstone, but I made the links to her 2 husbands (Tessendorf and Koch). Thanks again for the information.
