Bio and Links
Bio Photo I find copying headstones interesting, I like finding interesting people with interesting story's. Most my family buried in the greater Philadelphia area but I live in the Harrisburg area so I'll copy headstones here. Worked inside most my life and wanted to be outside after I retired so copied headstones and published them in the Quarterly once issued by the Capital Area Genealogical Society.

Please use 'edit' tab on memorial page for corrections and or additional information.
I now strictly adhere to the Find A Grave guidelines regarding transfers. No exceptions. Requests made that fall outside of the guidelines, or do not state relationship, are no longer being acknowledged. Virtual cemeteries are the way to "gather" your ancestors together.

Please don't justify an out-of-guideline transfer request for the sake of adding links and/or other information. Am perfectly capable of doing this, especially now with the new EDIT system - much quicker than transferring. If you decide to not forward information or links because a transfer isn't done, then that's your decision.

Mary Bowman Whitlark (Whitlock) #78599347
I recently found an obituary in the Harrisburg Telegraph for Mary Bowman Whitlark. According to the obit, she was buried in Baldwin Cemetery on 14 Mar 1897. I believe her to be the wife (most likely common law) of my great-grandfather, William Henry Whitlark, a long-time circus performer (#48432192. According to his diary, Whitlark met Miss Bowman on 20 Aug 1894 in Marietta PA, shortly before he joined the Welsh Bros Show: "I met Mary Bowman and got a good balling out for drinking and going to the dogs. That sobered me up and I started to be some body and I haven't bin drunk since." According to the diary, Miss Bowman also stayed with Whitlark from 3-12 Aug 1896, while he was performing for the GW Belford Wagon Show in Patton, Lillie, Portage, South Fork, Davisville, Stoyerstown and Somerset PA. There is no mention of a marriage to Miss Bowman, however Whitlark also had at least three other common law wives. In addition, he was married and divorced from my great-grandmother twice and also married to an actress from Philadelphia, whom he never divorced. At this point, I only have the diary entries and the obituary to substantiate my beliefs. I will soon reactivate my ancestry membership and try to obtain Mary Bowman's death certificate. Any information that you could provide to me as to who I should contact to obtain cemetery records would be very helpful to me. Please advise me as to what you would need to correct Mary's last name from Whitlock to Whitlark on the findagrave record. You may also contact me at thegruvmeister@gmail.com. Patrick J. A big Thank You for your promptness on accepting the edits and my SAC; I truly appreciate it. It took me a little time researching this couple to be able to send it to you. No children so this family is done.

William Rankin Strayer
Hi Robert, I'm the great granddaughter of William, thank you for the lovely memorial on him. I was told from my father and the story is from all of my uncles is, he used his mothers madian name because his twin David N. Strayer enlisted and they would not take William so he went to harrisburg and enlisted under Bowermaster. I'm sure there is some truth to this story, but again it is a story passed down.

Thank you

RE: East Harrisburg Cemetery
Harrisburg Cemetery is a retirement project I hope to participate in, once I am no longer full-time employed. I was curious if anyone had done any sections of Harrisburg Cemetery. I have a map of the cemetery, so it's just a matter of picking which section to start with, and take it one day at a time.
