The final resting places of my family on this earth hold a special place in my heart. There is no feeling to compare to finally finding an ancestor's grave after months or years of searching. When I am standing there I am humbled by the thought that this is where my family gathered together 25,55, or 155 years ago and still we go on. Some say that family is forever. Perhaps that is true. We are only here a short period of time. When I am alone among my departed family members there is a certain comfort I feel that some part of them is present at the moment and that life really never ends.|

I have found some duplicates in the Cook Cemeteries, and I am correcting them as discovered. The dup of your memorial has been deleted. I have not found a memorial for his wife Marian. Please posted it if you have that info. Most of her are buried at Fellowship Cem, Cook, GA; however, their memorials have been posted a a person listing unknown cem. I have requested her to select Fellowship Cem, rather than, Unknown Cem.

Josiah Rucks (1814- )
The 1850 US Census (Yanceyville, Caswell County, North Carolina) listed, in addition to Rucks family members, John S. Grasty (25/clergyman), Thos. J. Brown (45/Clerk of Superior Court), and Calvin Lea (15/student).
By the time of the 1860 US Census, Josiah Rucks and his wife Sallie were operating a hotel in Yanceyville and had twenty guests. Source: 1860 US Census (Yanceyville, Caswell County, North Carolina). This is thought to be what eventually became known as the Kerr Hotel on West Main Street in Yanceyville. See: Kerr Hotel.
Adjacent to the hotel building is a smaller story-and-a-half structure owned by Josiah Rucks that later became the law office of Emerson Scarborough. See: Josiah Rucks House and Katharine Kerr Kendall Article

Note the following provided by the Caswell County Historical Association:
The brick Kerr Hotel is thought by Katherine Kerr Kendall (who grew up in the building) to have been built under the supervision of Josiah Rucks. Ibzan Rice is known to have obtained a tavern license in 1838 for operation from the building. Upon Rice's death in 1848, Rucks apparently took over the tavern and added to it. However, he was never able to pay for it, and in 1858 joined with the Rice heirs to convey the title to Dr. Bedford Brown, Jr. This son of the U.S. Senator Bedford Brown of Rose Hill (an historic home west of Yanceyville) practiced medicine in this building until he became a surgeon of the Confederacy, and later a prominent physician in Alexandria, Virginia. Apparently, the Rucks continued to operate the tavern until the family left Yanceyville during Reconstruction. A Confederate veteran, John Kerr, operated the hotel from around 1890 well into the 20th century. The house is on the National Register as the birthplace of Congressman John Kerr, and has entertained many distinguished guests.

I had a friend who was already going to the cemetery so I released the request to him. He is the one that fulfilled your request. Since I couldn't see the note on the original request I forget what your note said. One of us will be going out there again soon so could you remind me of what your note said concerning Yvonne and George?
|Irish Indian||Yvonne Johnson Dickman|
Do you happen to have a middle name or date of birth or death for her?

Thank you, so much! I am going to look at your tree right now. I'm pretty sure I have seen your name there, and I have probably gotten info from you in the hints. I have only been doing this for about a year, and I'm blown away at the amount of information available. As soon as I figure out how, I'll share my tree with you. Who knows? You may find something useful!
|Vicki Jackson Likens||Society Hill|
Carolina, it seems we are related. Many of my relatives on my father's side are buried at Society Hill in Crawford County, Ga. My grandparents were Thomas B. and Mary Railey Jackson. Sara Blissitt Howell was my aunt, Ford Richard and James Brannen Howell were her sons. Thomas W. Railey and his wives Mary S. and Minnie Hudson Railey were my great- grandparents. Minnie's father was John F. Hudson, his father Joseph Ephriam Hudson was my GGG grandfather. Nancy Ann Tucker Bryant was my GGGG grandmother. I would like permission to use the photographs you have associated with their memorials. There may be others. I will let you know if and when I make connections. Thank you so much for the work you have done.
