We have been tracing our family trees for a number of decades. As part of that research, we have walked a number of cemeteries photographing the gravestones. Jim's genealogy centers on Mason County, WV and Elizabeth's family comes from the western New York area. |
ADDITIONS or CORRECTIONS
Changes to names, dates, places and relationships can be easily made under the Edit tab on any memorial.
The purpose of Find A Grave is to record burial locations, not build your family tree. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request.
If you wish to gather your family members, use the "Virtual Cemetery" feature.
Requests for transfers outside the "Family First" policy will not be honored. (Note: "Family First" as defined by Find A Grave in the FAQs are direct relatives within four generations as siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren)
All the current policies on transfers can be found at "How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?" under the "Help with Find A Grave" link on the left hand side of the page.
Photographs we have taken can be used on other websites or in printed materials ONLY if credit is given to Findagrave.com (including cemetery name) and credit is given to "Jim and Elizabeth" as photographers. Any images we have uploaded are copyrighted and are not free for the taking without proper credit.

As I mentioned in my earlier e-mail, I understand copyrighting personal family photos of individuals, just not the gravesite photos which consist of views any one who walks by a grave can see. I also understand the importance of referencing sources, especially for biographical information that is undocumented leaving your source as the person quoted.
I was just trying not to upset you, should you discover that I had resubmitted my photo requests because as I mentioned, I share my family tree not to the public, but with family members and I cannot guarantee you would always be credited for your photos. I felt I must be honest in that respect.
Best Wishes and thanks again,
|Ellen Herrmann||Copyrighted Photos|
I can see that both you and Jim have done a tremendous amount of work adding memorial pages to Find A Grave which provides an invaluable resource for family genealogists. I however find your copyright restrictions rather difficult to accept, as I share my family tree with several others in my family and can not guarantee that they would fully comply with your wishes.
For that reason, I am resubmitting my photo requests in the hope that a volunteer who is willing to share the photos without restriction to family members of the deceased individual. I can understand a copyright on a family photo of an individual because it is personal family property, but I cannot understand the need to copyright a photo of a gravestone which is always within public view and to which you have no claim of ownership.
Again, I do in no way mean to diminish the priceless work you have done, but would like a photo of the gravesite to share with family members without infringing on your copyright.
I hope I have made it clear that my resubmission of my photo requests is not intended to be unkind, I just don't want to invite potential legal problems.

Thank you so much for the photo of George and Elizabeth Luce's gravesites.
I really appreciate your willingness to volunteer. I hope you will agree to allow me to use your photo for my personal family tree.

I see that the photo of the marker for Richard Barvian, (buried in Saint Ceillia's South Cemetery in Sheldon, Wyo. Co. NY), has his wife's name and dates blurred out. I believe that his wife's name was Anna Mest, my 1st couxin 2x removed. Why is her name blurred out in his findagrave photo?
Hi I just wanted to let you know that Bill Millers middle name is Sabine, not Scott as you have listed with the headstone.
Thank You, Amy Grinstead-McCain
