[Special Note: I have entered into the findagrave records many memorials of former acquaintances, childhood friends, etc., and strangers. I would be happy to alter or remove any of these entries if requested to do so by anyone who is or was closer to the deceased than I, and/or is willing to update, expand, or correct these memorials, or otherwise improve the entry.]

Bio. Info.:
Since my retirement in 1999 at the age of sixty nine, I have been increasingly pursuing an interest in geneology. I am fascinated by geneology and the lives of our predecessors. Their stories show much tribulation, and great courage and strength. I hope to honor them by narrating their true stories as well as I can, and including some of the 'not so good' events as well as the good. I believe that all family stories are quite interesting and important when told in all detail and truthfulness.

In general, I believe our ancesters led much more difficult and much less pleasant lives than we. I find this humbling. Indeed, quite possibly their successes may be a greater accomplishment than our present day ones.

It shocks me, how extreme our advancement in modernity is when compared to the way of life of only one or two hundred years ago. Comparatively, the pleasantness and ease of our lives is astounding.

{NOTE: I have changed my email address as of April 19, 2007, due to difficulties with my former address.}

The Grave of Jack Henry Johnson, Jr.
Dear Mr. Scott: On Ancestry.com I saw a link to your photo of my former husband's grave in Erie Cemetery, Erie, PA. Your write up of the cemetery is wonderful. Just of note--besides my former husband (Jack Henry Johnson) buried there is also: John Ross Rhodes, my brother, Milan John Rhodes, my father, Edmund Ross Rhodes-my grandfather, Rhea Pound Rhodes--my grandmother, Eugene Rhodes, my Uncle. When I was a child I lived only 3 blocks from this cemetery and my family visited the graves of my father and Uncle very often. Because I lost my father at age 8 (Milan John Rhodes) and because I lived so near the cemetery, I would often walk over there and sit beside my father's grave. BUT other things I loved to do there was spend time in their really lovely, well-kept rose gardens, read the tombstones, and walk the winding paths within this very large cemetery. The mausoleums there are also beautiful. One message I read on a tombstone there said the man's name and then "who died while rescuing his son from drowning." I was deeply touched by that gravestone. Anyway, you are correct that this is a wonderful cemetery. I now live in California and it has been many years since I visited it, but my memory of it is still quite strong and wonderful.

Thank you for the pics of my grandfather's grave
I cannot express how deeply it touched my heart to see the pics you took of my grandfather's grave. I live in Oregon and cannot afford to visit his grave site in Pennsylvania.

John Martin Gutekunst
I just noticed your memorial for JM Gutekunst. How are you related or for whom did you make this for. I have been looking for relatives. John Martin Gutekunst is my 2nd Great Grand Father. I come from his son John who had a son Norman William Gutekunst. I have obituary's for Mary his wife. I guess you have noticed that on the census info it shows his wife as Anna. In Germany Anna is her her formal name but she went by Mary. She is buried in Trinity cemetery in Erie. Have found not one to take a picture of her headstone.

Gary Goody

P.S. Norman changed name to Goody

Hi Bill, I have photographed and posted the images of the John A. White stone from Lowville Cemetery. Buried to the left of the stone is David A. White and on the right is Emery Phillips. I hope this helps, best wishes, Jon

Lafayette (Medina County)
Hi Bill,
I notice that there are 18 photo requests for this cemetery. It looked to me as if you had photographed all the legible stones in the cemetery and placed them on Find A Grave.
If that is the case - I was hoping you could mention that in the 'report a problem' link on those photo requests. That would prevent someone from going out, getting permission, and searching for a grave that doesn't have a stone - or isn't legible enough to photograph.

Thanks, Joyce.

Truman/Trumain/Tremain
Hi Bill,

The last name for Solomon, as well as many of his ancestors and descendants has many variations. He is in the census as Truman, Truerman, Tremain, Trumain and probably some I forgot. His wife Lodema's grave is also spelled Trumain. Most later references refer to him as Truman though. Anyway, I don't know if that helps any...it's not any "proof"...but I'm convinced it's the same person. So, thanks again!
