I have been an amateur genealogist for many decades, and never tire of it. Puzzles challenge me. Guess it is the "thrill of the chase". I especially delight in helping beginners get started. |
Surnames I am researching and their primary locations:
New England and midwest: Hunt, Baldwin, Bigelow, Collins, Rose, Adams, Burket(t), French, Plant
Virginia/North Carolina: Campbell, Collins
Ohio and Oklahoma - Klintworth, Scherer, Schuler, Schultheis
Kentucky, Tennessee and beyond: Adkins/Atkins, Bertram (aka Butram, Buttram, Butrum, Buttrum, etc.), DeRossett/DuRossett, Brown (from ancestor Michael Brown of TN & KY, circa 1800-1858), Adkins, Owen(s), Rigney, Stinson, Shelton.
Missouri and Kentucky - Collins, Nations
I would love to hear from anyone else researching these names.

"It is very unusual that I do not have documentation for either Norris or Brown. Obviously I did at some time or I would not have added that information to Find-A-Grave. since I cannot substantiate it now I have removed both from the Find A Grave page. Thanks for calling this to my attention. Sincerely, Anna Bertram, Find A Grave #47006901"
No worries, Anna. It happens, sometimes. The only documentation for the Norris name I have found was someone linking her to a Tabitha Norris in the 1860 census. My/our Tabitha was married with children and twenty years older than the 17 year-old, single "Tabitha Norris"l in the 1860 census. I have a feeling this public tree may be the source of some confusion.
Take Care. : )

I am an descendant of Tollett BARGER and his wife, Tabitha. Can you please share how you found the maiden name of NORRIS and/or BROWN for Tabitha, please?

I was doing some research on my grandmother's family and found her father's grave. My grandmother was Nova Jean Stinson. Ellis was her father. Thank you for posting his grave. I know he had other children as well. Just starting my research. Robin Erwin
Hello, I didn't see a listing for William in any cemetery in Indiana so far. I'm now going to check my Family tree to see if there is a connection to the last name OHL. Are you also on Ancestry.com?? There is a researcher who has even posted photos of the Shanabarger Family. I'm looking at the overview page right now for a Peter 1810-1886. I did see that a posted a flower for Catherine Ohl Shanabarger, so now lets see if she is in my Family. Do you have access to cemetery records other than what is put on findagrave? I live in Mich., do you live there in Frankfort or nearby? Cheryl I Love to search things out so now I'll look into this new mystery. Cheryl
Let me have a chance to look into your question and I will get back with you. Cheryl

|Memory Keeper2||George W Butram|
I finally got over to the battlefield today and took some photos. The photos of the monuments commemorate the location of the 25th TN Regiment on the battlefield on Sept 20th, the day after George was killed.
I was told there is a marker in the woods at the site of the battle on the 19th but I have not found it yet. I will probably wait until the leaves have fallen.
A photo of the marker is on George Butram's memorial page. Would you like me to send other photos in an email?
I looked in "Tennessans in the Civil War" at our library and found a listing for 17 Butrams who served for TN. George W Butram is listed as Sgt serving in D Company 25th Infantry. There are two William Butrams listed as Pvts serving in the 25th D Company. One is listed as William NMI the other is listed as William E Butram. I didn't think to check on Bertrams but will when I get back to the library.
I found a record for William E Bertram in a listing of "Confederate Dead Buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery Elmira NY". He was in D Company 25th TN. I would think this is the same man that is listed in "TNs in the Civil War" as William E Butram, the brother of George W. Butram.
