The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a Government headstone or marker for the unmarked grave of any deceased eligible Veteran in any cemetery around the world, regardless of their date of death.

For eligible veterans that died on or after Nov. 1, 1990 and whose grave is marked with a privately purchased headstone, VA may also furnish a headstone or marker to supplement the graves or a Medallion to be affixed to a privately purchased headstone.

Flat markers in granite, marble, and bronze and upright headstones in granite and marble are available. Bronze niche markers are also available to mark columbaria used for inurnment of cremated remains. The style chosen must be permitted by the officials in charge of the private cemetery where it will be placed.

My belief is that family members, however distant, make the most caring managers of memorials.

I WELCOME all corrections, and with a few exceptions, I am happy to transfer any of the memorials I have created - on to those who have a relationship, or historical interest.

My own ancestors, family, friends, local memorials, and special history interests, I do maintain in my care.

I'd be happy to fulfill your photo requests if you can call the cemetery, obtain the grave locations, and let me know them. -Ken

Mrs William K Vanderbilt
I found obits and other things but nothing that tells where she is buried. My best guess would be she is with her husband William at:

Moravian Cemetery
New Dorp
Richmond County (Staten Island)
New York, USA
Plot: Vanderbilt Mausoleum

He has already been connected to your listing for her.

Georgia, you are certainly welcome. I truly enjoy searching for families for this reason. I will check back in maybe two months to see if his name is on the memorial. If not I will inquire about it:)
The older lady that assisted me said so many nice things about your Uncle. She also said he was well respected in the community and had many visitors when he was at RWC in Irvington.
Have a great day!

Dear GeorgiaCA: I think James was the brother of Walter. James is interred at Sunset Memorial Park. I looked for his final resting place today (no dice). Just thought I would let you know. Walter and Marla are in a very nice place, very quiet.....and I took some nice grave marker and lot shots for you. ~ BL

RE: Gardiner Baker Van Vorst 1855-?

Thanks. Intrigued by him going from prep school at Albany Academy to Utica mental facility at age 14 for the apparent rest of his life.

Gardiner Baker Van Vorst 1855-?
The 1910 Federal Census has Gardiner Baker Van Vorst as a 53 yr old in the Utica State Hospital for the Insane.

I don't have a death date for him.

The correct location is the Red Bluff Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. I have added a photo of the niche wall where they are buried to their memorials. The wall stands outside the front doors of the mausoleum. The mausoleum is located just inside the gates to Oak Hill Cemetery but has no connection to the cemetery.

RE: Florentina Elizabeth Queen
There is a photo on my memorial already. If you find out they're related, let me know. I've worked on the family a bit and have requested links to some of her kids and linked her to her husband Charles who you have. (His DC shows his middle name as Thobin rather than Tobin, but I've not found anything but "T" including an obituary) You might check back in a couple of days/weeks to see the links. I did find connection to a F/G contributor - one of her daughters married his uncle so he may want her too. lol Thanks! Kim
