Bio and Links
Bio Photo Hi there,

I live in Mississippi and have been researching my family history off and on for about 10 years now. I love uncovering new ancestors and finding new cousins. Cemeteries have fascinated me since I was a little girl so I'm glad my daughter-in-law told me about this site. I've spent a lot of time in local cemeteries copying tombstones and will try to load them all on here as time allows.

Surnames I am researching are: Schmidt/Smith, Sartin, Townsend, Wilson, Mason, Rutland, May, Farley, Barnes, Brister, Owens, Magee, Ingram, Williams, Boyanton, Jordan, Bridges, Galbreth, Carouth, Crosby, Walker, Jones, Allgood, Case, Stewart, Hunt, and four to five more Smith lines. I'll be more than happy to share and compare any information I have.

Please let me know if I have any mistakes that need to be corrected.

Take care,

Patti

RE: Wyley Smith - Memorial# 27958987
Hi Patti,

I'm having problems with my account but I'll try again! Thanks for adding the information to Wyley Smith's page. He was the brother of my great grandfather Fayette. It looks like there were four brothers who fought in the war. At one time I read a document where the surviving brothers were considered AWOL because they went back to work the harvest.

Wyley ENLISTED in the 33rd but due to casualties, it was combined with the 34th and rolled into the 45th. I've found at least two sites with this info but no original docs to verify.

Happy to meet you. D.

Grave Markers for Joseph May Cemetery
Patti,

The Judith Robinson Chapter, MSDAR, is requesting contributions from descendants of Joseph May, Sr, to help us purchase grave markers for his wife, Sarah Jane Campbell McLain May; Joseph May Jr's wife, Clarissa Daughtry May, and Hiram May - all 3 to be placed in the Joseph May Cemetery in Walthall Co, MS - which DAR members and other interested volunteers are working to clean up and reclaim.

Generous contributions have already been made by these well-known Joseph May descendants: Doug McBroom, Pam Schultz, Gail Chandler, Anna Louise Petersen, and Buddy Smith - and others. Any amount would be appreciated and can be mailed to: Susan Boyd, Regent; Judith Robinson Chapter, MSDAR; 706 Jackson Avenue, McComb, MS 39648. A public ceremony and reception is being planned after the completion of this project - hopefully sometime this Fall.

RE: John Holly Williams
I forgot to mention that Zula Mae Williams Wright (my grandmother) is the sister of John Holly Williams, so he adopted his nieces Willie Mae and Zula Mae and nephew John W. That makes my great uncle my legal grandfather, John Holly Williams. We called him Uncle John. I told you it was confusing!

RE: John Holly Williams
Hi Patti,

I'm so sorry to be so late in replying to your email.

Yes, I am related to this Williams line. My mother Zula Mae Williams was one of three siblings adopted by John Holly Williams, his wife Kathleen and his step grandmother Lilly Greenlee Williams (yes, all three were on the adoption papers!) after the death of their mother. Their father William Wright had deserted the family several months before my mother was born, and my mother's mother Zula Mae Williams Wright died of tuberculosis in a sanitarium 6 weeks after my mother was born. It's kind of confusing, I know.

I would love you chat with you! Feel free to email me at:
swallace81301@gmail.com and I'll give you my phone number. I'm very happy to connect with you!

Blessings,
Sandy

Handy P. MAY
I posted a picture of Handy's tombstone. Janice, findagrave.com volunteer, and some friends found the stone buried. Note the dates and "Handy", not "Hardy". They are reclaiming the cemetery and will place the military tombstone of Joseph MAY Sr later this spring.....Doug McBroom (MAY Family)

Joseph MAY
Patti, I added a picture of the "new" Joseph MAY tombstone. Janice Brock (one of our MAY cousins in Tylertown MS) ordered the tombstone. It will placed in the cemetery this spring/summer by the local DAR chapter. They are also carefully digging through the leaves and brush to hopefully find some of the tombstones there when a census was taken in 1976. ...Doug McBroom (MAY Family)

Hi Patti,

Sorry at this time I have no answers for you. However, I am excited to find someone else in my Mathis/Kyzar research. I will start researching this immediately. John Adison Mathis was my gg grandfather.
