I'm a retired grandfather (Bill Jones) in Upstate New York who's done a couple of simple family histories. Discovering linkages and sharing them with others is very rewarding for me.
One of my projects is working with weather worn and otherwise damaged headstones to glean info from them. Ed.: shaving cream and rubbing wax have gotten VERY controversial!
No, I didn't have a favorite in the Civil War because my family fought bravely on both sides!
My policy has been to post a memorial only if I know where the individual is buried. In some limited cases, I'm going to start posting a memorial even if the burial site is not known. I will not duplicate any existing memorials and I will happily defer if anyone knows the burial site and contacts me. The goal of this is better sharing of info, particularly about family links. | |

 | Edwin and Effie Dailey Many thanks for the photos and information posted regarding Edwin and Effie Dailey. Edwin was a distant cousin on my father's side and I remember him coming to our house to discuss Dailey family history in the late 1970's. He was a very nice man and always had a story to share. I don't have many photos of either of them, and your information was very helpful. Sincerely, Paul Dailey | | | Scott Banker
 | RE: Thomas Cemetery Photo Thanks for the reply Bill. Outside of putting it back at the cemetery not much else you can do with it.But who am I to say? Anyways,I stopped by the cemetery yesterday to photo-document it and am familiar with the story about it. I wonder if anyone has looked down by the creek to see if any other stones still survive? It appears the land behind the cemetery is private property,so I don't know if it would be possible to do so. I was getting ready to match up my photos with the burials on find a grave when I saw the picture you had and obviously it wasn't there so I was curious to where it went. Would I be able to use the picture on my page for completion of this cemetery? I will give you full credit of course. If you would like to see my project please stop by: https://www.facebook.com/TheCemeteriesOfWesternNewYorkProject
Thanks for your time, Scott
p.s.Are you interested in doing cemetery restoration projects? Depending on where you live,I might be doing a small cemetery in Greece and the more interested parties would be great. However, the town is giving me a hard time about it,so I don't know if it will actually start or not.Just figured I would ask... :] | | | Scott Banker

 | Castner stones in Gilmore Thank you for getting pictures of the Castner stone. My parents tried years ago but were told there were snakes. Could you read the dates? I don't think the Miller side is related. I saw a list of graves on GenWeb that lists some different Castner names. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/cemetery/gilmore.html Have you seen these? I saw that you live in NY, so I assume you don't get to Donora often. | | | Kathi Swan
 | getting info from stones Hi Bill a lot of cemeteries here in Pa no longer allow shaving cream or anything with chemicals. The office Manager in West Newton Cemetery told me to use sidewalk chalk it is non toxic rain washes it off and it does no damage to the stones. I have had amazing results using my grandkids chalk the blue and green work best. Kathi | | | Kathi Swan
 | Hrenyo Hi Bill I am in the process of Photgraphing St. Micheals in Donora Washington County Pa. And I found George Hreno 1879-1940 & Anna Hreno 1893- not date of death. Could they be your Hrenyo's just spelled differently? I dont want to add the photos unless I know for sure. Kathi | | | jkosackcrosby
