 | Calvary: Section 13 Request
You have request(s) in Section 13 at Calvary in Cleveland. I, and others, have filled over 200 requests since late March. Yours has been skipped on every visit as I don't have a map.
If you'd be so kind to call the office and tell them you're visiting when they're closed, such as on a Sunday, they will most likely agree to mail you a plot map. If you'd get this and then scan it to me I'd be happy to take a photo.
That said, I do want to make clear that 13 is one of the sections without a lot of stones. It's probable that there will not be a marker, if not I'll take a photo of the area where the burial should be. (There is of course a chance that there is a marker.)

I have an "old" drum that looks similar to the drum Philo has in the postcard photograph. Inside my drum is an old, yellowed newspaper clipping with the title "Champion Drummer." A picture of Philo is included. The text:
"With his eighty-ninth birthday coming on directly, Philo Case still holds down the job
of drummer boy in the Long Beach, Cal. martial band, an organization that plays frequently at Southern California outdoor fetes.
Drummer Case claims to hold a national championship. He began as a drummer boy on the Iowa frontier when 14 years old and has been a drummer ever since. When Lincoln stumped Illinois during the 1860 campaign for President, Philo Case was drum major of a band that accompanied him on his speaking tour.
During the Civil War, he was drum major of an Iowa regiment. He is here pictured with the original drum frame carried by this distinguished soldier on the Southern battlefields.
Needless to say, the drum has had several new heads, but continues to do service whenever Case is called upon to "do his stuff" with drumsticks presented to him by Lincoln after he had become President."
I have no idea how or why this article is inside the drum I have.

I went on Ancestry and read an explanation of where the photos came from. I had always wondered. The researcher said that a son of Elizabeth Odle had been in Ireland during the WWI era and took the photos. He (or his mother) probably made copies for everyone in the family! I have the same photos of the house and of the lane leading up to it.
I'm trying to find more about John and Mary's family. Up until I saw your copy of the death certificate, I didn't know the names of their parents. I've researched other McCartneys who lived in the South Bend, Indiana vicinity and none of them seemed to be related, other than John's children, of course.
Last night I added a findagrave memorial for John's second wife, Susana Wainer McCartney. I'm descended from his first wife. They were divorced in 1870 (quite a scandal!) and I don't know what happened to her after that. | | | L Wallien

Hi! It looks like we have the same photo of the house near Belfast. Did you get it from another researcher, or did you have it in your family? Just curious. If it's from another researcher, I think it is probably a file they got from me. :) I do not know where John McCartney is buried, but here are his vitals:
B. April 1828, Ireland
D. 23 July 1880, South Bend, St. Joseph, Indiana
Married 1) Eliza McHenry 25 Jan 1854
Eliza was an alcoholic, and they divorced 20 Sept 1870 in South Bend.
Married 2) Susana (Waner)Fluke.

Hello,
I am also a McCartney researcher. I am descended from Mary McCartney Redding's brother John. I have a letter from Elizabeth Redding Odle which was my source for the relationship. I'm so happy to see Mary's death certificate which lists her mother's name. Let me know if you have any questions I might be able to answer. I have a family Bible belonging to John McCartney (but does not list his parents' names, just his children) and some photos that family ledgend say are of the McCartney farm in Ireland. | | | Sue Barnett
