The dates for David and Nancy Rowland do not match well for parents of Robert C. Rowland.
|WAYNE BOWEN||RE: MARTHA ANN WRIGHT|
TOM: UNFORTUNATELY THE VERY SAME PICTURES YOU HAVE ARE THE SAME ONES I HAVE. I GUESS THERE WEREN'T VERY MANY PICTURES DRAWN OF THEM BACK THEN.
|WAYNE BOWEN||MAJ BENJAMIN WRIGHT|
YOU ASKED IF I HAD ANY OTHER PICTURES OF MAJ BENJAMIN WRIGHT AND HIS WIFE MARTHA ANN WRIGHT. UNFORTUNATELY NO, THOSE DRAWINGS THAT YOU POSTED ARE THE VERY SAME ONES I HAVE. THAY HAD A SON, MARCUS J WRIGHT WHO WAS A BRIGADIER GENERAL IN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY. AFTER THE CIVIL WAR, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO WRITE BOOKS ABOUT VERIOUS OFFICERS WITHIN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY. MANY OF THESE WERE PUBLISHED AND AVAILABLE ON LINE SOMEWHERE. WHEN HE DIED, HE WAS BURRIED AT THE BASE OF THE CONFEDERATE MONUMENT IN ARLINGTON CEMETERY IN WASHINGTON DC. HE WAS MY GREAT GREAT GREAT UNCLE. HIS SISTER, ELIZABETH LEVEINA, MARRIED MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER, DR CHARLES CARY CRUMP. SHE IS BURRIED THERE ALONG SIDE HER FATHER MAJ BENJAMIN WRIGHT BUT DR CHARLES CARY CRUMP IS BURRIED NEXT TO HIS MOTHER IN BURWOOD, TENNESSEE IN THE POPE CEMETERY.

MARTHA ANN WRIGHT AND BENJAMIN WRIGHT ARE MY GREAT-GREAT-GREAT GRANDPARENTS. IM HAVE A PICTURE OF THEIR MONUTMENT TAKEN BACK IN THE LATE 1950S BEFORE THE MONUMENT WAS DESECRATED. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT SOME OF THE LOCAL TEENAGERS ROBBED THE GRAVE AND BROKE UP THE MONUMENT. MARTHA ANN WAS BURRIED IN A GLASS CASKET WITH ALL OF HER JEWLERY ON HER FINGERS. WHEN THESE TEENAGERS DUG UP HER BODY, THEY COULD NOT REMOVE THE RINGS SO THEY REMOVED HER HANDS. THE LOCAL POLICE NEVER PROSECUTED THE YOUNG MEN BECAUSE THEIR REASONING WAS THAT "BOYS WILL BE BOYS". TRAGIC!

Didn't know if you had ever heard of Benjamin Franklin Randolph (ID 16990409) and Levi Kendrick Wilmeth (ID 70806784). They were the young men sent to Leavenworth for their conscientious objections to the war while at CCC. Ben died shortly after his release.

Unfortunately I do not. But my notes from a previous visit there indicate it is a beautiful nine foot white marble tomb with an urn on the top.

Would you mind adding the photo that you put on Rev. John C. Freeman's memorial to his wife's Memorial too?

You may want to check out the pictures and captions I added to D. Ellis Walker's page. Please add the location of his grave if you know it. I only heard him speak twice (Centerville, TN and Getwell church of Christ in Memphis, TN) and I only got to speak to him once (at Getwell) but he made a strong impression on me. Thank you for putting him on findagrave.--sheila mcdade

Sorry I omitted the name of the cemetery. It is Mt. Olivet in Tarrant County, Texas.
