Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my family history for about 37 years.I traveled with my parents to every court house and cemetery in Wisconsin and Minnesota where our ancestors had lived...we met many relatives that gave us oral family history. I am also on Ancestry.com and have many pictures and profiles of my husband's and my families dating back to the 1500's for myself and the 700's for my husband through his Scotish lineage..yes I did say 700's...:)

112965630 Christ Harley
I appreciate the note and picture left for Christ Harley and his parents. Christ is my Great, Great Grandfather. My Great Grandfather was Henry Harley, his son.

Not much is know about him from my family members, so it was great to see your comments. If you have any leads to additional information, could you let me know?

Thanks again, Daron

RE: Marit Evensdatter Mogen
Hello Roxanne

I missed your note earlier, sorry.

I just updated Marit's memorial and changed her name to "Marit Evensdatter Odegaard" (In the record of the family's 1880 emigration from Norway, their farm name is spelled Ødegårdeie). I also added some further family data to her memorial.

The previously listed last name "Mogen" does appear in Pastor Thorson's funeral book, the only record we have of Marit Evensdatter's death and burial. No stone or burial site have been located for Marit at West St. Olaf Cemetery.

The only explanation I can give for the last name "Mogen" in Pastor Thorsen's record lies in the fact that her daughter Mari (Marit) (Maria) (Mary) Olsdatter (Olson) Lia (Lea) was married to Christopher Gulbrandsen Mogen (Mogen was Christopher's farm name). Mari and Christopher Mogen had lived in Vernon township for about 8 years by the time of Marit Evensdatter's death in 1881, and so it seems likely that their name would have come readily to Pastor Thorson's mind as he recorded the death of Marit Evensdatter. I don't think it was a mistake on Pastor Thorson's part. I think his use of the "Mogen" name in his record was intentional, and meant to signify the family tie existing between mother and daughter in this case.

My connection to all of this is that Marit Olsdatter Lea (Lia) Mogen was my mother's 1/2 Aunt.

Best Regards,

Sam Clark

RE: Torkel Sorenson
You picked a nice day to travel Sat. Glad you were over to Bog Elk Creek to visit. It would be nice if Torkel and wife had a new marker alongside of the original. Folks are doing that for their ancestors. Great thing to do for the family history, and future generations.

I found the gravemarker and added a photo to the memorial page. Marker is very old, engraving is worn and difficult to read. Dates are not clear.
