Hi, Jacquelyn - Thank You for the kind words - I hope that you probably saw a re-post of the Amazon review, or an excerpt from a chapter of a book that we have been working on about Dad and Mom...the Cash story is pretty well known, and as noted, I detail it more when someone asks me do so. It is true that we were in a Lincoln that Dad seemed to have difficulty comprehending the idea of making payments on; he really did drive right over the security chains (what a long time ago that was, now look how security is for celebrities!) and John and June did come out in their bathrobes. Amazon cut me for space but Mr. Cash said to Dad, "Son, I can't believe you didn't see my security chains," before Dad stuck out his hand and introduced himself as the biggest Johnny Cash fan in the world; June did, as I noted, ask us in for tea and to hear the Good Word. My brother and sisters were crawling under the seats, mortified, but I was thinking, "There's a story in here...."...and it was '68, not '70. The Mayo Clinic meeting went exactly as I mentioned - Mr. Cash strode into my deli while June wasa patient at St. Mary's across the street, looked at me, I looked at him, and that simple sharecropper's son who never got above his raising remembered some little kid from almost 15 years earlier. I was astonished. When he told me he'd pray for my dad (read my father's page, and you'll know how that story ends), I wept - sometimes, the greatest love, and kindest prayers come from strangers. =) Take Care - Hugs,RCP and Gannon Blue | | | Rhonda C. Dear Jacquelyn, What a sweet surprise to find your message! Well, life with my parents was interesting, to say the least, and how we managed to come across Mr. and Mrs. Cash the first time has actually been detailed in my writing and on the web, but the most important part of that meeting was that June quickly recognized a carload of little kids probably didn't have a whole lot to hang onto into the world, and she said as she shook my eight year old hand, "Would you like to come in for some tea, and to hear the Good Word?" I never forgot that...Fifteen years later, Mr. Cash walked into my cafe in Rochester, where June was having treatment at Mayo; he looked at me, I looked at him, and he said, "I know you, Young Lady." I said, "Oh, Lord, yes, you do, my dad -"..., and he did remember my father and the whole story. Absolutely astonishing people, and when I told him that he and June had 'called it' way back in 1968 about my family, he said "I'll pray for your daddy." =) Amazing.
