Genealogy isn't really researching the dead but researching who set the roots for who you are today.|
Lord, help me dig into the past
And sift the sands of time,
That I might find the roots that made
This family tree of mine.
Lord, help me trace the ancient roads
On which my father's trod,
And led them through so many lands
To find our present sod.
Lord, help me find an ancient book
Or dusty manuscript,
That's safely hidden now away
In some forgotten crypt.
Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts
My soul when I can't find,
The missing link between some name
That ends the same as mine.

Added vs Managed
Ive had others transfer memorials to me to manage as they wished to do it, not because I asked. Now that I have them, I am happy to manage them as most are related somehow.
A Bit About Me
I have enjoyed genealogy since 2000. Like to add any cousins to my tree. Like to help people and take pictures of all stones in any cemetery. A lot of the time I am not related to the person's stones that I post but if in Nelson, Washington, Casey or Marion Counties of KY - my children are probably realted.
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe.
PLEASE do not post a message below about linking, additions or transfers about a memorial I manage. Click the Edit tab on the memorial that you wish me to edit. Thank you :)

You may attach the photo of the announcement of his death to his memorial. That is fine as long as the copyright is expired.

Could you tell me if you have added memorials here for Mound City from some sort of burial list? I am searching for the grave of Union soldier James Bruce who died at Depot hospital Cairo IL Jan. 6, 1862, taken from "Registers of Deaths of Volunteers". He is not listed on F/G. Just wondering if all available records for burials in this cemetery have been added.

I am Hubert Cochran's grandaughter. My mother was his daughter, Rose Marie Cochran (1928-2013) I would love to visit and pay my respects to my Grandpapa (who I never got a chance to meet) before I move back to Idaho in May. Did you take the photo and if so, can you give me some specifics on how to find his marker and his sons, Gordon Joel and Joel Gordon, if they are also there at Union Band Cemetery, which I believe they are. I will be driving up there in a couple weeks and would so appreciate any help you or anyone else could provide. I'm afraid that I will get there and be lost, not knowing where anything is. I will be traveling alone. It means the world to me. Thank you! Beverly

Rhonda, I submitted a new birth date for this memorial bases on the following:
U.S. Register of Deaths of Volunteers:
Obadiah Scott, died 14.2.1863 at Paducah General Hospital, served in 22nd KY Infantry, Co G
US Civil War Pension Index:
Obadiah Scott, G 22nd Infantry, mother Elizabeth Coley pensioned
Family search - (unable to see records, just index)
Kentucky Civil War Service Records of Union Soldiers, 1861-1865, Obadiah Scott, 22nd Infantry, shows age as 21
1860 Census of Carter KY shows household of Thomas Coley contains older wife Elizabeth Coley with son Obadiah Coley. Born ca 1842.
Let me know what you think...open to discussion. Nancy Pfannenstiel

Thanks for all your work with findagrave. It's a great reference, and a work of love.
I was curious about the date and place of birth listed for Obadiah Scott. Is that part of the official record? Or did someone add that later?
That is actually the birth date, per family bible, of a Jesse Scott, son of Jesse and Fanny (Wood) Scott. Their son Obadiah Scott was born 05 June 1795, and last documented in 1850 Census, Dade County, Missouri.
