Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Antonio. Born in my father's hometown of El Paso, Texas. My childhood was mostly in my stepfather's hometown of Truchas, NM. Later moved back to Mom's hometown of Espaņola, NM where I eventually graduated High School and then left to the Air Force. I've done some traveling, but home is Home. I began actively researching my genealogy around 2001, although it was always an interest since childhood. I've researched other family genealogies too. I frequent cemeteries looking for data. I appreciate the connection felt from seeing the final resting places of family members and connecting others to the same experience. I've come across unidentified graves due to time and erosion. So, in addition to identifiable graves, I've tried to include damaged graves with the slightest of information. I hope anyone with additional information for these graves would please share that information and save these graves from becoming lost graves. It's my ambition to try and preserve the identities of all graves I come across. On memorials I manage, I try to research what I can to not only preserve their identity, but their legacy as well. I also attempt genealogical connections when available, particularly in my own community area.

I have lots of family and friends in the Espaņola Valley, therefore I am in a position to adequately manage and update their memorials per findagrave's "ultimate goal should be to have meaningful, accurate memorials that honor those who have passed away, regardless of who created the memorial or who maintains it." I know a few contributors are ambitious with their stats, and that's fine. Grave documentation provides a useful service and I don't see a conflict with transfer requests if it honors findagrave's ultimate goal. I hope that is considered when I make transfer requests for non-family members. Sometimes, it facilitates my ongoing research and reduces my follow up process. Some contributors are wise enough to understand this, Thank You. I enjoy the collaboration process and often share updates I come across. There is only one contributor that I have had an adverse encounter with, and that's one too many. Please work with me, so that I don't feel reluctant about working with you. I'm not a collector, I'm a researcher.

My copyright protected photos are free for viewing and private personal use, but not for dissemenating. Any competent attorney will confirm that they do not fall under "Public Domain". If there is a use for my photo, it is courteous to at least request permission before hijacking and plagerizing the photo. Depending on the project, I may be and have been accomadating. But I absolutely decline permission for paid membership sites like I don't believe in my photos being used to enhance other's profit potential. Thank you to all those who have extended me the courtesy of requesting permission.

I'm as fallable as the next person, so I do welcome any and all corrections and collaborations. I do endeavor to respect the wishes of survivors of the deceased. Basic communication generally resolves many issues. May all our lives be fulfilling before the grave finds us.

RE: Galisteo Cemeteries
Our days start out with such good intentions and then a battery quits on us or we get side tracked...I do understand.

It gets frustrating too when those of us that are even somewhat knowledgeable about these rural sites go to the effort of trying to have them correct only to have a "mega" memorial submitter just blop a memorial into a cemetery that "looks good enough or close enough" - yet they are completely wrong in the location.

I have seen some of your contributions and edits. You are one of the few that I do not hesitate to accept your input. I know that you have made every logical effort to submit correct information.

Thank you...and take care!

Galisteo Cemeteries
Sorry I previously misunderstood your message about placing the words Old and New after the name and took it to mean that it was not previously understood that both are valid and do exist.

Would you also like to suggest to Find A Grave that both cemeteries are also known as "Nuestra Seņora de los Remedios Catholic Church" - again one being "old" and one being "new"? This being said, a portion of the "new" cemetery is also known as the Galisteo Community Cemetery.

For a little community it sure gets confusing easily (LOL!)

RE: Galisteo Cemeteries
Unfortunately your suggestion is not completely correct for these cemeteries. The "population" does not really reflect which cemetery is appropriate. It really goes back to the date of burial and if prior arrangements were made for an exception that a recent burial (since c 1940) might be in the Old cemetery.

An Old Galisteo and a New Galisteo cemeteries already exist on Find-A-Grave and are both populated.

I do however appreciate your wanting to help correct these errors.

RE: Geraldine Gibbens Shafer # 112010628
If you have a pic of the funeral home marker, that would be fine with me for my records. The email I got from findagrave says that they have removed my request. I see that the memorial has a plot number. Are you able to double check it for me?

thanks, take care, karen

Thank you for the nice photo honoring Genara Montoya. I am also sending you a transcription of what I think is her obituary.

Geraldine Gibbens Shafer # 112010628
I requested a photo for this memorial. Someone reported that the cemetery has no record of her being there. Even though her husband, Edwin Shafer, is there. I have a copy of her obit. Just wondered where you got the information that she was there.

thanks, take care, karen

Thanks much for the photo of my grandmother's grave. I knew she was living with relatives in Carizozo, so I don't know how she ended up there in Espanola. More research for me to do! Thanks again.
