BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN (via Alice Huitt Preston)

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

"Done... but there are others flowers still there."

Yes, but yours was the ONLY one that said it was a duplicate memorial. Which it no longer is. Thank you for removing the flower. And, thank YOU for drawing my attention to the dup that listed her as ORA.

"Only the memorial page owner can remove... and that is you. Feel free to delete my flower. Thanks."

YOU are the only person who can remove your flower. Click on the picture and it will take you to the delete page. Thank you.

Davis...F/G merged the two memorials and now the original (and only) has your flower on it:

This is a duplicate... this is DORA A.

Would you consider removing this flower.
Thank you.

RE: Bio
It is difficult to manipulate Find A Grave sometimes. I also did all the marked graves in Kennesaw Memorial Park. That cured me of the urge to do any other entire cemetery.

Davis, You may think I declined your edit but I did not. I put the information in the "Bio" section rather than the "Marker Transcription" which was the way the request came through.

RE: The McCollum's
You're welcome. Right down the road and it was a nice day to walk the cemetery.

RE: Wow
His home is only 20 miles from me. I plan to return and talk to him again. Give me a list of things to ask and I will include them in our discussion when I go.

RE: Elizabeth McCollum....
I was pleased to do it. I had quite an adventure looking for the cemetery. I did learn that the location had housed a Church, store, and a school.
The community was called Old Union. I talked to a Mr. Hollingworth and he has records from the school.
The only thing remaining is the cemetery about two miles into the woods. The land is leased to hunters. There will be no photos taken during hunting season. Too dangerous.
I have lived in Fayette County for the last 20 years. If I can be of help, let me know.

RE: James and Essie McCollum
You're very welcome. We were camping near Lavonia and thought I'd take some time to tour the cemetery.
F.Y.I., I also have photo of George McCollum (1918-1956). Is he part of your tree? I'll create a memorial, unless you'd like to...
