Bio and Links
Bio Photo I created the Find A Grave website because I could not find an existing site that catered to my hobby of visiting the graves of famous people. Much to my surprise, I found that there were many thousands of folks from around the world that shared my interests. Seeing Find A Grave grow and grow beyond my wildest expectations has been one of the great joys of my life.

I was born in Alma, Michigan but spent most of my youth in Denver, Colorado. I attended Grinnell College in Iowa and earned a BA in music. I currently live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I enjoy playing and writing music, reading, table tennis, foosball and disc-golf (the macho sports).

Hi Jim!
My public name is Osiris #47272171. I thought long and hard before contacting you, but decided to do so because I'm having a problem here that I shouldn't be having at all. Last month I discovered that on one of my memorials the button to upload photos had been disabled. I contacted Mark, and he quickly corrected the problem; at this point there was no problem with any of the other memorials. However, on Mother's day, as I attempted to upload new photos of my mom, I realized that the button to upload photos on her memorial had been disabled (her memorial has been sponsored so I should be able to upload up to 20 photos). I then checked my other memorials and found that on the memorial of one of my aunts the upload photo button had been disabled as well, and her memorial has no photos at all!!! And I can assure you this was done to me shortly before Mother's day. The memorials in question are #67545887 (Alicia Maldonado de Vega, Mother) and #68141642 (Angela Marcano, Aunt.)

I find this to be particularly cruel considering that it was done right before mother's day. I lost my eldest son recently, so I'm really going through a very tough and difficult time. These memorials mean the world to me, because I cannot visit my relatives graves and this is the only way I can honor the memory of my loved ones, which is the case for a lot of F.A.G. contributors.

I might not be a huge contributor as far as sponsorships, or amount of memorials, but I do visit a lot of members and try to give them a word of comfort for the loss of their loved ones. Thus I consider myself to be a good member and contributor to this wonderful site. I feel I'm being singled out by someone and cannot understand why.

So, sweetie, I'm kindly requesting for you to look into this matter at your earlier convenience. I don't want to sound melodramatic here, but this situation is really causing me a lot of emotional distress and discomfort in addition to the recent loss of my child, and I don't really need nor deserve this. F.A.G has provided me with the joy and opportunity to feel close to my dearly departed, and have also been able to make very good friends here. However, these days I have been feeling targeted and not among friends anymore. Please help!!!

Thank you in advance for your kind attention to this issue, and hope to hear from you soon. Blessings to you and your family. Have a great weekend!

Kristie Moore
Facebook Page
Hello Jim,

My name is Kristie Moore and I have joined a group on Facebook over a year ago and not to long ago became an admin for the page along with another person. We did not make the page. The other admin and I have made a new page to slowly get rid of the older page titled Find A Grave and now ours is Find A Grave Fan Page. We have some of the volunteers getting upset because the group has Find A Grave as the title saying that unless we have permission by you we need to change the title of the group. Facebook has a rule that any group with more than 250 people can not change the name of the group which is why we formed the new one. We have 71 people so far that are leaving the first group to the new one.

I would like to know if we can have your permission to not only help advertise the site but use Find A Grave's name for our group "Find A Grave Fan Page"? I would appreciate it. Thank you very much!

Several duplicates for Bluff City Cemetery
I'm from Elgin, Illinois and Bluff City Cemetery is in Cook County not in Kane County at all. There are 3 separate listings for this one cemetery. Hope you can consolidate.

-856,090 memorials-
Mr. Tipton,

If you go through ROB MINTEER's memorials they are page after page of 'letter' names on the same days.

It is not about the numbers with most any of us, it is about the work we did either to memorialize someone or to help others find there family tree information.

No one should be allowed to "corner the market",
by cheating like this.

I am shocked that this problem has not been taken care of sooner.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Isn't this illegal on some level?
NOTE: If I understand the law I read than FIND A GRAVE NEEDS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION.

Most of the books I checked and many of the online places all state that you cannot post elsewhere, however contributor ROB MINTEER has informed me that is perfectly acceptable to Find A Grave that he copy from books written by others.
PLEASE ADVISE ME IF THIS IS TRUE, because I have a few people that want to also know.

I had questioned him on a few occasions after I tried submit graves and photos that I have visited and done the actual work, I had noticed that in almost every case, he had copied the books or the pages I looked up on the internet almost word for word.... and in just a few days. I explained to him that it wasn't fair and that it could be fringing on illegal, he always erased my messages.

PLEASE THIS TIME DON'T TELL ME THAT IT WILL BE FIXED SO THAT HE CAN'T DO IT AGAIN.
I have wrote before asking why this is acceptable, IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW.

It seems to the people I have spoken to in my library and etc... that this is among other things a form of PLAGERISM.

I DON'T FEEL THAT IT IS FAIR TO ANYONE THAT IS DOING THE ACTUAL WORK TO, to have to give him the updates and post our pictures on his memorials.

HIS MEMORIALS SHOULD BE ERASED IMMEDIATLEY, HE AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT IS COPYING FROM WRITTEN MATERIAL IS CHEATING THE PEOPLE THAT DID THAT WORK.

I am not picking ROB MINTEER OUT SPECIFICAALY, IT IS JUST THAT HE HAS COPIED FROM WRITTEN WORD FROM ALL OF THE SAME CEMETERIES.

Please let me know what you are going to do.

Mr Tipton,

Great site. Great idea.

I have inherited a rare photo, taken by my ancestor, of a person memorialized as "Famous" on your site and wish to contribute it for all to see and enjoy. It has never been published.

Finding the policy about photos in the Find A Grave, I am seeking more clarification. My comprehension of the policy is that nowhere, in any category, may a photo be uploaded that one has not taken themselves. I have noticed there are many photos uploaded (even by administration) that, I believe, could not have been taken by that person or have seen published on the web and other media sources that hold a copyright (my writing is not an accusal of copyright Infridgement; any that I have seen have been properly cited and state permission for use was granted).

The clarification that I seek: Is there a a diffrent policy that pertains to Famous Memorials? If I have missed it, I apologize for taking up your time (and have clarified that I must get glasses). I want to be 100 percent positive that I am abiding by policy.

Thank you again for this great forum.

need mass transfer done
I understand that it's the squeaky wheel that gets greased, and that the volunteer administrators don't have time to look into the history of every memorial they are asked to merge or delete. And I have no problem with them doing what is easiest in order to save the most info about a person.

I also realize that with the number of memorial pages on Find A Grave increasing so rapidly in recent years that it's tough to keep up with all the requests you get. I believe in Mark's motto: Patience Is A Virtue. And I have plenty of patience—but some other folks do not have quite so much.

What would be very helpful for me would be the ability to transfer dozens of people in a cemetery (or even all my additions in a cemetery) by checking a box in front of their names or whatever system you have to enable you to do it so quickly. I expect to get more and more such requests as time goes by and more people get involved with Find A Grave.

For now, I hope that whoever monitors this page will do the following mass transfer for me. I have spent several hours over the past several months doing batches of 30 or 40 as they come my way—but I really can't be spending dozens of hours through the summer taking care of thousands of them…especially when you can do them very quickly. Thank you! (I have sent several requests to have this done over the past few months—I guess I got spoiled when previous ones were done so quickly.)

Please transfer all memorials entered by me:

In this cemetery:

To the following contributor:

Thanks again.
