"Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you."

RE: Ronald Dean Metcalf
Thank you for your reply.

I search more on the site last night and found Judy and his father Ralph.
I believe he is my cousin who died when I was 4.
He only lived approx.30days and his sister lived approximately 4 months.
If you had not put the pictures on the site I would not have found them easily. Members of my aunt's family are all dying off. My mother is now 96.I am going to contact a cousin who lives in Carmi and see if he will check out the cemetery and find out if this is the right family.
My aunt is buried in Knootz Cemetery near Fairfield.

It is amazing what a young child remembers that leads to break brickwalls in genealogy.

Thank you very much

I wouldn't go out in that weather. Hopefully it will warm soon and you can check that tombstone again. Thanks,

Thank you so much for the transfers. I don't think I've ever received a transfer that quickly!

Thank you! Yes, I could be related to this person. The Cokers in that cemetery are also my kin.

Is the rest of the tombstone viable? It looks like the rest of the birth date could simple be obscured by some grass. How about the death date - can it be seen?

RE: McPeak Family
We dont know where he is buried there was no death certificate of his buriel and everybody is dead to ask. all i know is that he was divorced at the time of his death and the children where put in a foster home until they where big anuff to leave. back then they had guardianships. Johns sister married a Jennings Deer and moved to Henderson co,Tn. And There was a son named Boswell or Baswell that we have never found. And Johns mother has also not been found. I have checked every cemetery listing by county and nothing. Its like after 1838 they dropped off the map. Im not sure but the old spelling for McPeake is spelled with a E on the end and when they came over here they dropped the E and in 1849 it was added back on with 2 slashes under the C I have also seen it with 1 slash also i believe this is a sign of how many generations we have been here 300 years.I put 2 slashes under mine with a small C with 2 slashes under it. We all decend from the brothers william, james, john, patrick, and Daniel the earlist record i have found is all the way back to 1714.So we have been here a very long time.
