PLEASE MAKE CORRECTIONS OFF OF THE 'EDIT' BUTTON ON THE MEMORIAL, DON'T MAKE ME CHASE IT DOWN. THERE HAS BEEN A RASH OF POSTING CORRECTIONS ON THIS PERSONAL PAGE.|
I began my interest in genealogy at about age 12 when I found interesting writings about previous generations of the family and I made copies for myself and kept them in a safe place because I thought it was fascinating. I still have those notes at age 67. I grew up in Wichita and San Antonio. Graduated high school in San Antonio.
I'm a Spec 5 Vietnam veteran married for 45 years with 3 children and 6 grand-children located in Wichita, Kansas.
I enjoy documenting graves so that others can find their kin easily and accurately. I'm grateful to those kind souls who have helped me in my research and am happy to return the favor. For every memorial I enter onto this site, that's another memorial that has a chance of getting into the right hands of family or friends.
Thanks to everyone who has sent encouraging and positive thoughts! I don't always have time to answer everyone back, but please know you too are appreciated.
Duplicates: It is never my intention to create a duplicate on purpose. If you come across a duplicate I have made, please use the SAC and let me know. Nicely, please. I'll be happy to remove it. Please don't create a duplicate of my memorials; I would rather you just ask for a transfer instead of creating a duplicate. I promise I won't grill you or make you prove your relationship to the deceased!
And for those that don't seem to get what a dupe is: If I enter a memorial on March 1st for Colby Smith and then someone else enters another memorial for the same Colby Smith on March 15th, the one entered on March 15th is the dupe, not mine.
Transfers: I am not one of those people who refuse to transfer except within certain guidelines. If you are related and promise to take good care of your relative's memorial, I will gladly transfer to you unless it is my direct relative. On each memorial please use the "EDIT" button and then the "Suggest a Correction" (SAC) to request transfer. However, if you are one of those people who strictly adhere to the transfer guidelines but want me to transfer to *you* outside of the guidelines, chances are I will decline your request. My numbers seem to indicate I don't transfer. In fact, I have transferred well over 2,000. Findagrave gave me about 1,800 memorials after the passing of member, Joe Mefford, which is why my 'managed' # is not much less than my 'created' #. Recently I've been transferred many more memorials because the creator went on hiatus.
Recently I've had to be more selective about transfers. Asking for an entire cemetery a few at a time is not going to happen.
Photos: Please feel free to use any cemetery or grave photos I have posted on Findagrave for your personal use, public or private. For any photos of people, please contact me first. Some of them I have obtained permission to use from other sources and will need to run it by them first.
****If you volunteer on this website and decide you no longer want to maintain the records please transfer your records to someone who has an active account and willing to take over the records. I am one of many willing to take over records. This really will help reduce duplicates. It would also be a good idea to leave someone instructions on how to do make these transfers should you go inactive without warning.***** Thank You (Borrowed from another FAG Contributor)
Like so many other contributors, I've had to take my e-mail off my bio due to unsolicited, unwanted e-mails.
Thank you to findagrave member T.V.F.T.H. for allowing me to use the Duplicates, Transfers and Photos language above.

I'd liked to thank you for the transfers you recently did for me. I know that my wife will appreciate it as well. You're a good man Joe Gibbens.
|kate duckworth||Thank you|
A special thank you to Joe, for a thoughtful and considered approach to working on FindAGrave. I know it takes extra effort to think about who/when to transfer memorials, instead of using one-size-fits-all decisions. And a more specific thank you for transferring my relative, Charles W Duckworth, to me.
I have had a lot of relatives in the Tisdale/Winfield/Burden area (a lot by local standards, that is) for the past century. I'm sure we can call each other cousins somehow!
|Betty Lang Walker||George W. Walker|
Thank you so much for the transfer of George W. Walker. I appreciate it very much.

Sir, my family is in White Chapel and I would like to manager their account. What do I need to do for this to happen. I would like to be able to update a lot of information on these records for future use. I know you are busy but I am hoping you will be able to answer my questions. Thank you for your time.

Thank you again.
Joe I'm trying to be nice about this and even tried to figure out an easier way to get this fixed. But now you try to tell me I was circumventing rules as I have too many deaths in any one particular month? That doesn't sound like cooperation to me does it to you? Every memorial I entered has a death date - AND apparently was placed in the correct cemetery. I didn't do anything outside the rules. Now I'm more than happy to correct the dates if they are incorrect or incomplete but I don't think using an accusatory tone puts you in the best light since you duplicated several hundred memorials that already existed in the right place. I'm currently waiting for information from the admins on the best and most efficient way to handle this.

Hi Joe ..
May I suggest you start an email to Edit and give the links and ask them to merge the individual memorials That way the info won't be lost and you won't have to do any deletions/relinking and/or move photos over. Just a thought.

When you have an older memorial page and find a duplicate made after yours contact:
edit at findagrave dot com
Ask them to merge the memorial pages. The newer memorial is always merged into the older and if there are photographs they are also merged. Just make certain both memorials are in the correct cemetery before requesting a merge.
