Hopewell Cemetery
My name is Norma Porter and I live in KS. I was in KY doing some genealogy work in Oct. 2015 and visiting the cemeteries in the Prentiss/Beaver Dam area. My grandfather John Henry Barnes came from this area.
My great grandmother, Martha (Miles) Barnes and her sister Carrie (Miles) married Joseph Anderson Barnes. Their maiden name was Miles not Miller.
Joseph A Barnes mother was a Miller, Dorcas Jane Miller.
On find a Grave I noticed Carrie as a Miles and Martha "Mattie" as a Miller. Their parents are James Miles and Susanna (Davenport) Miles. Their all buried in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Thanks for all your work on Find a Grave.

Jesse Ashby
Thanks so much for the changes on Jesse Ashby. I discovered from information online and from a relative (Ev Ross), that Jesse Ashby served only in Dunmore's War of 1774. There was a mistake made in 1937 in attributing his service to the Revolutionary War. On the DAR website, Jesse Ashby (Dar ancestor #A003412), it is shown at the top that "this listing does not constitute proof of lineage," and "this proof is no longer valid." "Service in Captain Morgan's company was in Dunmore's War. No other service; military, civil, or patriotic has been found in our records." Jesse Ashby isn't listed in master list of 277,000 soldiers who fought in Rev. War, but he is listed in "Virginia Colonial Soldiers." Still, that Jesse Ashby served in Dunmore's War under Captain Daniel Morgan is pretty darn impressive! He also served with his father Thomas Ashby and it appears with a John Ross, who was either Joseph Harve Ross' grandfather or Uncle. I'm guessing his uncle. Joseph Harve Ross' children and grandchildren married a good number of Jesse Ashby's children/grandchildren. Joseph Harve Ross was my 4th gr grandfather. He married Nancy Williams; a daughter to Evan and Sarah Downs Williams and niece of Nancy Williams; first wife to Jesse Ashby. The reason why I've been researching this so extensively is because I wanted to rule out the James Ross (brother to George Ross; signer of the Declaration of Independence) as Joseph Harve Ross' father. I finally did and found out that his father was actually a James Ross b. about 1736 to John and Barbary Wiseman Ross. This John Ross b. about 1708 was son to Lord Francis Ross. It was a huge undertaking to finally establish this and many unhealthy hours sitting in a chair - ha! Hope the above information helps and thank you so much again for referral to your website. I am working on adding the wonderful info that you have on Jesse Ashby and his travels to where he finally ended up in Ohio, KY and his land purchases. Amazing info that you have compiled. Thanks so much!

Jesse Ashby
No problem regarding the transfer. I thought that you might be related as well. I will check out your website. I recently discovered the family lineage to my Joseph Harve Ross who had a good number of children and grandchildren who married into the Ashby family. It took some pretty intensive research because lots of people thought Joseph was related to the brother of George Ross; signer of the Declaration of Independence. I finally found out that his gr grandfather was Lord Francis Ross, his grandparents were John Ross and Unknown Wiseman, and his father was probably a James Ross born in PA but moved to Frederick, VA. Just today, I made a connection to Joseph Ross' grandmother Unknown Wiseman who had a brother Abraham Wiseman. Abraham Wiseman is buried in the same cemetery as General Turner Ashby and his brother! So, the Ross family and Ashby family definitely had a long history together.
