I'm a hobby genealogist who has been working since about 1990. I'm in the process of writing books about the McKee line of my family and I hope to publish soon.

The McKee family moved from Irland to the United States in the 1830's. They eventually all gathered on farms around Sparta in Randolph County, Illinois. Children of the migration generation grow up in the area. By the 1900's they begin to scatter all across the United States. Few family members are left in the area today.

Caledonia, Sparta
The gal I talk to at City Hall has been on vacation, and it's been a bit crazy around here, so I'm still waiting to hear from them : I have it on my calendar to call them Monday and see what they decided!

There will be a cemetery committee meeting in Sparta on May 28th and our little problem has been added to the list of things to discuss. I'll let you know what I find out after the meeting! Stephanie

OK - took a lunch break and went back to City Hall with the list from the library in hand. Based on other names on the same page in the old listing, the last name, and the name of Ella, I have found which lot the burial is supposed to be in and I will be stopping by on my way home! Keep your fingers crossed :)

Robert McKee #50425980
As for this one, I couldn't find this Robert McKee on the older listing from the cemetery, only a different Robert McKee. I'll keep my eyes open and see if he turns up somewhere.

I think I've hit a breakthrough on this one! I'm so excited!!! I went to the local library and pulled out the volume of cemetery transcriptions that were done ???? a long time ago - (the book was bound in 1973). The lists appear to have been typed up in the order the tombstones were transcribed while someone walked the cemetery. There, in between the Pattersons and the Browns is Joe E Thompson and Ella Perkins Thompson. Would this be the right one??? b/d 1881 and 1905, no dates listed for Ella Perkins.... Will try to stop and locate this section on my way home from work tomorrow. Steph

RE: Offer of Help
Send me an e-mail if there's anything I can try to look up for you. As I said, I do work 8-4ish everyday, but enjoy putting in a few minutes each day tracking things down when I can! I'm pretty new at the whole genealogy thing, but have come to be pretty familiar with the local cemeteries! Have a great evening.

Frustrating to be stuck isn't it?! If there are any other avenues I can try for you here in Sparta just drop me a note and I'll do what I can. Taking a stroll through the cemetery or dropping into the library on my way home from work in the afternoon is best way to 'wind down' before I get home! And soon I won't be having to chase after kids practice schedules after school so I'll have more "me" time - yay!

It's the book where they list the burials and sale of lots - I'd think it's probably the most accurate thing there is to go on. It is entirely possible that I missed it because the names are entered on the index at the time of burial so they aren't in alpha order, other than by first letter. I will go back again some day soon and take another look to see if I can come up with anything else.

Minnie Lee Aldridge Burns
I misspelled her name in my previous post. She was listed as informant on her mother's death as "Minnie Lee Burns."
