Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a passionate 'history buff and armchair genealogist' for these past 30-odd years which includes, but is not limited to, New England, Mid-West and the Western United States. Plus I am a member of several Lineage Societies and Genealogy Societies in the United States.

Currently I am researching, compiling and documenting the Civil War Veterans buried in/around Spokane County, Washington with over 4,000 names and counting.

Plus I am also researching, compiling and documenting 1812 REAL Daughters and their veteran fathers buried in the Pacific Northwest and the surrounding states.

Please Note: I will transfer web pages to proven family members only that ask politely!

Can you tell me what is the source of your information on Daniel W. Smith?

Lucinda (Conary) Smith
Hi Jake,
You left the following message on a flower for Lucinda:
"Wife of Daniel W. Smith (1825-1896)"
Daniel is my husband's great, great grandfather, but we have no information about him. Do you happen to know where he is buried? Is he on findagrave?

McKendria Jones
Some information which may be helpful to you in your search for this Civil War vet.

His widow, Josephine E Morse Jones, filed her claim for widow pension from Idaho on 31 Mar 1892. The last known child of the marriage, Horace, was born in Jul 1886 before they left Wisconsin. Date of death is probably somewhere inbetween, probably closer to 1891-1892. As she was the postmaster of Post Falls, Idaho in 1900, she was in the curious position of certifying her own pension vouchers for payment!

The M1845 Card Record of Headstones Provided Union Civil War Veterans is maddeningly unhelpful. A stone was issued about 1904, but the index card does not say where it was sent, nor what the date of death of the veteran was. However, you are looking for an Original Belknap government (US Shield) marker, 10 inches wide, probably extremely worn by now, which originally read "McKendria Jones Musician Co K 5 Wis Inf"

Daughter Lelia, who married Merton L Austin, has a Washington death certificate on 13 Jan 1924 at Colbert. This certificate probably says where she was buried, and could be where a family lot is located. Good luck, and stay in touch.
