I've always loved hunting thru graveyards, even as a child I could be found exploring and reading the stones. I participate in many memorial services as a "Black Rose" (mourner) with the TN Society Order of Confederate Rose. Tho' I don't know but few of the names I list I believe everyone should be remembered, their lives are full of stories we'll never know, most leaving just a rock to speak their existence. I live in middle Tennessee, we have many small family graveyards here. As a genealogist I have found clues and info on FAG I've not found elsewhere. FAG has many errors and I'm more than willing to correct any that I may have on my memorials. Also I am NOT into the numbers games I believe information belongs to us all, ask NICELY I will transfer to you. I am genealogist at the Smith County, TN, library - if anyone needs any look-ups done out this way, email me, message here, or call the library T-TH, 615-735-1326.|

Miss Dixon. Thank you so much for the excellent directions. The three times I have been back I never went past Sam Flatt Cemetery where my Grandfather and my Great Uncles, Great Grandparents are buried. I can't believe I was so close! Well next time. We are coming back next year and hopefully move to Cookeville in less than two years. Yes YOU ARE SO RIGHT !!!!!!!!! Lots of wrong information going around about the Flatt's. I have been doing genealogy on the family for forty years..but started earlier when 12 and I started to ask Grandma Sarah Flatt about who was her parents, etc. So I still have my paper chart I did. I spend more time telling people this is "not correct information." They are disappointed when I tell them we have no indian ancestry on our side of the family. Flatt does not come from Van der Vielts....DNA proved that. But I did intense research on the subject by looking at hours worth of microfilm and told Deb Flatt what I found, so when she did the DNA project...guess what..I was correct. Then I told her, see I told you so. Most people just don't want to do the research but want to grab info and claim the prize. I tell people even census can be wrong with spelling the names, dates of birth, etc...you have to look at several census and other information...look at court records, land records, war records.....well you know. I was at the Smith County Library on my second visit, been to Putnam and Overton libraries....and done all my microfilm work at the Genealogy library in Austin, Texas (which is huge). By the way my Great Grandmother is Lucretia Jane Jackson Flatt and the tombstone has her wrong birth date on it...hard to convince people until I show them the census records she had been around "before she was born". But you see this too. I just got in touch with some second cousins and they have lots of wrong info and I asked did you get this from either of the following two people, yes they said...I said toss it out. Well I can go on and on about this. My cousin Reba lives in Sparta and she is the niece of Lester Flatt. Between the both of us we get inquires saying they are related to Lester through their son or daughter.......so we have to break the news...Lester and Gladys had no children. Well again thanks for the directions I was like driving in the car when you were telling me. So we are way off Cuzn's......good ! Susie

|Susie ||Thank you|
Thank you for giving honor to those who fought in the Civil War. Can you tell me where John Madison Flatt cemetery is in Nameless? I missed this cemetery on my last visit to Jackson County. I do the genealogy for my family Flatt and Woodall side. I just found out that John Madison Flatt (many great grandpas) was a POW in a Yankee prison. I saw Benjamin Fox's name too...also related.
Can you let me know about the cemetery?
Thanks Miss Dixon.

Thank you very much for the information about Phebe (Allen) Kennedy. Whenever I see a marker that is not in good condition and is in danger of disappearing sometime soon I try to take a photo and add it to Find A Grave. - Cheryle Latour

If I didn't already, thank you for the transfers. You have done an amazing job.
|Butterfly Rose||RE: Did|
I still haven't gotten those pages of Hugh Greenlee that you said you were going to send
|Donna Cohen||RE: Transfers|
No, not into numbers myself, just putting family together and decided when I found family others have, and there is no relation, have been kind enough to transfer. I will do the same when I have the opportunity to go cemetery walking.
Thank you for the transfers. Sometimes it's all we have of past folks.
I'm on the Central Coast in California - Paso Robles, in the San Luis Obispo area.
Again, thank you so much!
Many blessings and happy Easter!

I was looking through Find A Grave an saw that you had left a message on Matilda's memorial that she is ur GG grandmother, she is also my GGG grandmother. I really love Find A Grave. I joined about 2 1/2 yrs back but just started getting into it and finding that this site is a great place to start or just to compare note's an to connect with other relative's... Would really like to know just how we are related!!??
|Butterfly Rose||RE: Reminder|
