I inadvertently put Bessie as his mother. His father was married three times and I got them a little mixed up! His mother was Lee Powell Driggers. Sorry for the inconvenience of the correction. Keep up the good work with Findagrave!

|Anonymous||RE: Roderick Lodd Shaw|
Thank you so much for answering my questions. Years ago, around 1984, I actually flew to Atlanta, rented a car and drove to Columbia, SC, where I picked up a former sorority sister and we drove to the Sandhills Wildlife Sanctuary near McBee. That land formerly belonged to Murdock Shaw. I went to the caretaker's house and banged on his door. A truck was in the parking space, but I could not raise anyone. So, my friend and I set about trying to find the old Shaw Cemetery. There were so many brambles and and significant thicket. We also did not know which way to go. Eventually, we found the task too great and gave up. We found the swamp to which the son had taken the family valuables when Sherman was on the way to the house. We also explored the McLeod Peach Orchard land (previously noted as McCoy Peach Orchard in T. Blake's book) which once belonged to my great-great grandfather Roderick Shaw. It is amazing that my ancestor gave his slave 414 acres of land, which was a lot of land even then. Surely he was not the lone exception.
I also know that in one census, Daniel is listed and he appears to be the father but despite all my research, I cannot find anything further. I think if we could find from where in Scotland the family immigrated, we would be so fortunate. I went to Scotland in 2012 and loved every minute of it, all the while wondering where my relatives came from. There is some writing about the family being from the Spey River area (which is in the far north.)
If I turn up any additional information, I will let you know.

Could you tell me how you are related to the Shaw brothers: Murdock and Roderick? That is, which of Murdock's children was your ancestor? Roderick was my Great-great-grandfather, his son, Archie Bishop Shaw, being my Great-grandfather. You can find me listed in Tyther Blake's book on pg. 139.
Also, do you know anything about their parents? Name, dob, dod, place of birth?
I believe that the information in Tyther's book about their parents being born in Scotland is incorrect. I believe their parents were born in America. On the other hand, if you have any information that connects them to Scotland, that would be so very much appreciated. Any and all information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching for their parents for a very long time.
Thank you for answering my questions.
I'm So Sorry! I've just seen his obituary and it WAS the 17th. So much for government bureaucracy. -- Christine
|emersunrose||Arthur W Huckle|
Hi. I just submitted a correction/edit for Arthur's DoD and the location of birth & death. The Social Security Administration recorded his death as occurring on the 13th rather than the 17th (which was probably the date he was buried). -- Christine.
Hello, I'm tracing a Camilla Marie Thames and I have a note on a Family Association site (Thames/Tims) that she married an Allison and since I see you have put a flower on her grave (62577755)
that you might be related, is that the case???
If so, do you know more of her or her spouse??

I noticed that you posted the same photo twice on memorial #52653566. Can you please delete one of them?

Charles V. Hurd is my maternal grandfather. He is the son of Albert R. Hurd and Hannah M. Swarthout (who was the daughter of Owen R. Swarthout and Maria Ann Meserole). Hannah W. Swarthout Miles (memorial # 58813351) currently linked as being his mother is the wrong Hannah Swarthout. Hannah M Swarthout Hurd was born 3 Oct 1843 and died 5 Aug 1878. The owner of memorial 58813351 removed inaccurate links to Owen and Maria Swarthout and to Albert R Hurd but was unable to remove the link to my grandfather, Charles V. Hurd. If you are able, please dissociate Charles V. Hurd (memorial 55584145)from Hannah W Swarthout Miles (memorial 58813351)
