I enjoy writing reading, politics, Being creative, listening to Gospel & Jazz music, theater, and Genealogy. I am currently writing a family History book on my Cully Family of which Zara Cully Brown of the "Jefferson's" was a descendent of.
I am researching "Sugar Hill" Manhattan NY from the 1920's to 1950's, where my mother was raised. My mother Betty Mae Peters was writing her memoirs, but never got around to putting them together completely. The journals and notes she left inspired me to begin researching about my family.
I am also researching the Cully, Dove, Whittington, Carter, Willoughby, Becton, Martin, Fenner, Foreman, Singleton, Gilliam and Moore families (Not inclusive) of North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia so that I have a thorough background history of the families that lived in Craven County areas of NC.
Within this research, I am looking at the Free People of Color and their relations to society as a whole in an America that was not pro-diversity.
My research has led me to Boston & Worcester, MA, Harlem, NY, Washington, DC. I am also writing a book on my Adoption search and the journey that helped me to embrace my identity.

 | Ricci Byrd Hi Yvette- I was greatly helped by your entry for Ricci Byrd!! I am also interested in genealogy. Recently Ricci's 3rd wife, who was my cousin, Betty Turner Alston Byrd, passed away. I inherited all her photos including an old photo of a young woman. I believe she may be Ricci Byrd's mother, Carrie Alice Douglas Cooper Byrd. Could you write and tellme if you have any more information about her?The photo was taken by a studio in St. Paul Minnesota around 1905. I have found Carrie in the census records of 1920, (state) 1925 and 1930. No mention of Minnesota.
Please write me back! GigiAdded by Gigi on May 23, 2013 10:24 PM | | | Mary

 | Ambrose Cully Hope Cemetery Worcester Hi Yvette,
I found Nora Cully's marker. There was no standing monument for Ambrose near her. Willie was on the back. I will post those photos later today. It is possible that Ambrose has a flat marker. The ground had a beautiful thick covering of fresh leaves. I tried to shuffle through them, and found no marker for Ambrose, but I could have missed it. Perhaps when the ground is clear in the spring it will be found.Added by kdkb on Oct 31, 2010 7:16 AM | | | Jondoeforty1
