Bio Photo Just getting in to the mystery...oops the HISTORY of my family. So many people have helped me on this site with my search and they don't even know it. I am hoping to add as much as I can to help any family member that may need help in the future. Right now I am sticking to my family and maybe posting pictures people request of the gravestones near me.

My family includes:
Reese/Jones/ Nowland
Manwell/Ide/ Bowles
Broughman/ Sutton

Mostly of Michigan (but some did make it out)

William McComb, Hopkins Cemetery
Find A Grave Memorial# 126022173

Hello. I saw that someone added a memorial for William McComb and that you added a picture of his headstone.

William has to be related to my 4th great grandfather, Nathan McComb, whose son Nathan McComb, Jr. is buried in Hopkins Cemetery (Nathan Jr. is my 3rd great grandfather).

I've been to the cemetery a few times and didn't see the headstone for William. Do you happen to remember where it is located in the cemetery? There aren't that many headstones left so I'm not sure how we missed it.

I'm also wondering whether you have any more info on the stone itself. I see there's a death date of Oct 31, 1880 and under that is "Aged" __. Can you make out William's age?

I know that Nathan's son, William, was in the Civil War in the Michigan Cavalry, 7th Reg't, Company C. I am wondering if he was also in the 10th Mich Infantry, Company I (a William McComb appears in a book listed in that company). We don't know of another William McComb in the Genesee County, MI area and our William is the only one found on the 1860 census.

The problem is, we know without a doubt that our William died on June 3, 1864 in Cold Harbor, Hanover, Virginia as a result of injuries sustained in the Civil War. This is verified when his widow petitioned the probate courts for their minor children in 1864 and also requested a pension for his service in Sept 1864.

If we had the age of the William McComb on the headstone you took a picture of, that may help us.

Thanks so much for any add'l info you may be able to provide.

Toni

I spent the day hunting down head stones for requests, and I covered every stone I could read in the Chapel Hill cemetery. Given the very sad state of that cemetery, and the fact that many burials were relocated to it when Chapel St. was built I don't believe Sarah's stone will be found. The place is in such a state of disorganized chaos and bad maintenance that it's very possible it's been lost.

Nina Coon
I have not found a Nina Coon in Evergreen Cemetery in Michigan but I did see on the Soc Sec Death Index that a Nina R Coon had a Michigan Soc Sec Number and was born in 1911 and died in 1991 and died in Mason County in the state of Washington. Could this be the Evergreen Cemetery that she is in?
