I am a native of Memphis, Tennessee, an Elmwood Cemetery interpreter and a historic property docent. Local gay historian and writer. Have memorials for the Astor, Garavelli and Hill families related to me and some interesting personages I know about.|
I will be posting more photos so my family members will become real people again and not just some leftovers under the grass.

|Debbie||RE: Vance Avenue Alma|
You're most welcome.
I just watched the show "Deadly Women" on the Investigation Discovery (ID) Channel. I have not seen the death certificate, unfortunately. I did a search on ancestry.com and only found the social security death index, where her dates and last residence came from. No other info exists on ancestry.com that I am aware of. Sometimes, believe it or not, the years engraved on tombstones are incorrect. Although, according to her bio, she died at the age of 74, so something doesn't jive. The SSDI has typos from time to time, so I agree with leaving the birth year at 1895.
I am curious to know what the W could stand for in her middle name as well.
According to the show, Deadly Women, she is indeed buried NEXT TO one of her husbands, and I believe they said her 1st, which would be Halprin Cox, if I am correct in my recollection. I searched for all her husbands' surnames in Elmwood, but couldn't find any. ;-( The show stated that she had a modest tombstone. It's interesting that she actually was a mother, according to her tombstone...
I thought the bio was pretty good!
Here's some google results for stories about her; I have only glanced through them:
RE: Vance Avenue Alma
Thank you for the additional information. Have you seen the death certificate? I am wondering what the "W" on her marker stands for. Also, what is the source of the photo? There seems to be a real dearth of photos of Alma in the Memphis area. I did not change the birth year since it does not match the marker, I want to find out why first--it could be any number of reasons. The bio was hastily written for a virtual tour of Elmwood so it could use more work when I get more information. I don't have her last husband's name yet. I don't recall if she is buried next to a husband or not.

|snm||RE: Benny Crawford|
The adding of biographical info is the most rewarding part for me on this site. I wish I had more to offer for everyone I entered or posted a photo for. It has been a long time for Benny, but if I do by chance come upon something, I will definitely send it to you. As I mentioned before, my sister and I were so happy to find Benny. We were teenagers when we saw him last. Thanks for making a memorial that would mean so much to us.

|David Galloway||John Jacob Astor of New York|
Are you related to the famous Astor family of New York? I noticed that in your Astor family many of the same names are used such as John Jacob Astor and Vincent Astor.
Thank you so much for the memorial of Benny L. Crawford. I went to school with him in New Mexico and knew he had passed away. By chance, I typed in his name and was so pleased you had added him. Appreciate your efforts.

All looks good except Sallie Andrews Duncan #93772058 is not linked to her parents, Isaac # 101399720 and mother Martha #101400095. As for Martha everything I have for her just shows Martha and that is Family Tree Records and Census. I need to request some photos for that family. I really appreciate that you did the links and added the information, also that you had added the memorials. Thank you, MHN

|Bill||Jeptha Fowlkes, Memphis|
I have been transferred the subject party who was a friend of Solon Borland during his life after his 1836 arrival in Memphis.
There were other Jeptha's born around same time so his bio is tainted with possible incorrect info, so noted.
Have you any info regarding this party? Would appreciate your review and comments regarding his memorial.

I believe J J Rawlings is buried in a Rawlings plot at Elmwood, however, his grave is sadly unmarked.
