Bio Photo I am caring for my Mother, since the death of my Father.

I am not on this site daily. Thank You for Your Understanding and Your Visits to Our Memorials. We are checking For Edits. And, visit your memorials as we can. Blessings to each of You.

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. Author Unknown

RE: Stemme
Carolyn: In last message: "On the 1880 Census Ferdinand has a daughter Augusta listed as age 8 b.1872 MO. She must be named after her mother. And, her mother must have died before the 1880 census. ^*[Your Comment] Note: This is confusing. [My comment] Notice when Ferdinand Stemme and America Copeland were married 1879. And now notice the birth note listed on the 1880 Census for Augusta b.1872 MO. She is not America's daughter. She is the 1st wife Augusta's daughter. When Augusta arrived in America she was with her 3 children - Lena, Marie, and Alwin - all born in Germany. After she arrived in Missouri, she must have had another daughter named Augusta, named after her, in 1872. This must have been her last child because she must have died before 1880 and after 1872. I hope I'm explaining this correctly to you.
Thanks, Shirley :)

Ferdinand Andreas Stemme
I just looked the census and immigration records for Ferdinand Andreas Stemme and his family. It looks as though Ferdinand traveled with his oldest son Ferdinand Jr. first to America. Then his 1st wife Augusta age 35 traveled later with their next 3 children Lina/Lena 9, Marie 5, and Alwin 4. On the 1880 Census Ferdinand has a daughter Augusta listed as age 8 b.1872 MO. She must be named after her mother. And, her mother must have died before the 1880 census. Ferdinand is listed as married on the 1880 Census to 2nd wife America Copeland. They married on Nov 4, 1879 in Iron Co MO which the census shows that location. Ferdinand dies 1903, so he is not on the 1910 or 1920 census, but America is shown as a widow living with her children. Is this correct information?
Thanks, Shirley :)

RE: Armina Lodge Cemetery - St. Louis MO
According to a burial list for Arminia Lodge Cemetery from the St. Louis Genealogical Society's file marked 'ARMINIA', your ancestor, Andr. Ferdinand Stemme is listed as b. July 2, 1830 d. June 14, 1903. Birthplace German.

This burial listing has a notification marked with a "*" indicating that the information for most of the individuals buried in this cemetery on this burial list came from St. John's United Church of Christ Death Records in St. Louis, MO. Please let me know if the information for your ancestor is correct.

Since I've gone over this information from the file marked 'ARMINIA', I've found some mistakes. I'm not sure if the person who put the list together made the mistake or the death records at St. John's United Church of Christ were a bit off with the information. The death records at St. John were in German so someone translated all of it. I know sometimes the death record will be incorrect as to the burial place/cemetery.

Hopefully by the time I finish this project updating the burial listing for Arminia, it will be complete and I will make sure has every single name listed. Knowing if there are tombstones for each and every name will be difficult to figure out though. It's a shame that this could happen and no county or city or person wanted to be responsible for this cemetery when Highway 141 was installed. An article did state that someone tried to find a 'living' relative of members of the Arminia Lodge for this cemetery, but could not. Looking at the map I have and the area where Arminia is located, I can plainly see that half or a quarter of Arminia Cemetery has been taken for this highway. But to verify that would be impossible.

Thanks, Shirley :)

RE: Armina Lodge Cemetery - St. Louis MO
Carolyn: I just found more information on the Arminia Lodge Cemetery through the St. Louis Genealogical Society. I'm trying to check all the data they gave me compared to what I have listed. After the job is complete, I'll have a complete listing of who is buried at Arminia Lodge Cemetery.
thanks, Shirley :)
