When I was small and would spend the day with my grandparents, I was not allowed to cross the street. I could, however, go along with my friend Bonnie,(and her little dog, "Willie") around the block to Rosemont in Plymouth, Illinois. This started my interest in the stones as art; the history of the people in my community, and my love of cemeteries and their preservation.|
Now that I live in my grandparent's house, I realize she only had to look out her back window for a fine view of the cemetery -- clever grandma!
Tim Coplin and I did mapping and a complete photocataloging of all the stones in the Old Macomb (Illinois) Cemetery. Tim also made a map of the cemetery.
My daughter and I have plans to photograph and catalog several cemeteries. It just takes much more time than we had anticipated. We are actively working on a number of cemeteries: Mt. Horeb, in Adams Co.; Old Augusta & Woodlawn near Augusta; Rosemont, Irwin, all near Plymouth and Bowen all in Hancock Co.; Scott and Old Macomb in McDonough Co., and Round Prairie (Schuyler Co.)also near Plymouth,IL.
We are on the final stretch of several of these. Eventually, we would like to work in the St. Mary Cemetery, which is just a few miles north of Plymouth.
We live on the convergence of Hancock, McDonough, and Schuyler Counties in Illinois and are only a short distance to the Adams Co. line. This is an area that many pioneers passed thru or stopped over for a few years before continuing West.
Please let me know if any of my entries need additions/corrections/deletions or if you want to assume management of an entry. If I can help in anyway, please let me know.
Happy graving to all. Connie

We set up a memorial for the baby in Mount Horeb Cemetery in Find a Grave #138872257, and made the links to her parents. There was some confusion regarding a picture that was posted to her account; it was a picture of her mother's headstone. They might have been buried together. The baby's father, James Jagger went on to marry Frances Weidenhammer, sister of Elizabeth Ann Weidenhammer, my grandpa's grandma.
We were happy to set up the memorial, and know there are other Weidenhammer's in Mount Horeb, and maybe we can collaberate and update Find a Grave with the Weidenhammers. Nancy Gawthrop

Please look at the stone photo on Srah's memorial and tell me what it says. I have cataracts and cannot read it even with magnifier. I would appreciate it.

|JD Day||RE: Obit for Ernest L. Day|
If you will scan and email to me, I would appreciate it. That way I can just copy and paste in his bio.
I've been trying to find when his body was actually returned to states for burial in Macomb. I don't suppose it says anything about that in the obit.
I think the return of the bodies was in Fall 1947.
Does your aunt have any articles from Macomb during that time?
