"I salute that finer, larger world across the generations and maybe someone out on the vista may look back and appreciate an ancestral salutation". H.G. Wells|
I enjoy documenting my ancestors (many early New England Quakers) into the digital age. I have lots of old family photos that I am adding as I find each person. (Please be kind and mention my name as the source of these photos and stories, if you use them.) My main family names include: Hoag, Wood, Dwelle, Gifford, Scofield, Tefft, Macklin, Peck, Dodd, Vanderwerker, Davis and on...

|Gayle Yiots||Elizabeth Hoover Duff|
I believe that Elizabeth Hoover Duff was the daughter of William Edward Hoover and Julia Gertrude Hough Hoover, not the daughter of William Hoover and Elizabeth Huff Hoover. First, she was born ca. 1881 or 1882 and that would have been much too late for her to be the daughter of Elizabeth who was born ca. 1814. Elizabeth would have been about 67!
The 1900 Federal Census lists William E Hoover and Julia G Hoover with one daughter Elizabeth, born Sept. 1881. This William E Hoover is the son of William Hoover and Elizabeth Huff Hoover. That would make Elizabeth the granddaughter of William and Elizabeth Huff, not the daughter.
Elizabeth is also found on the 1930 census in D.C. with her husband John A Duff and two children Edward H and Jean E.

Thanks for catching the error. Her burial is unknown - I apparently put her in Bacon Hill and then forgot to mark her unknown. An interesting ancestor.
|Scott and Priscilla Butler Fraser||Sarah Martin|
You mentioned a duplicate for Sarah Martin, where is this? In the same cemetery. Thank you.
|Melinda Elliott||Correct pronunciation of the Hoag name|
I wanted to express my appreciation and admiration for the John Hoag memorial, contained history I hadn't been familiar with and is nice not to have look back with a blush at the opinions and acts of an ancestor. And, how to pronounce the name? Thank you, cousin.
|Lhurd||Edward William Briggs, Jr.|
I would like to correct your entry on Dr. Edward William Briggs, Jr. His wife is Evelyn Graves, 1907-2005, daughter of Mark Graves and Clarabelle Gale. Edward William Briggs Jr. is my husband's maternal grandfather.

|Scott and Priscilla Butler Fraser||Aaron Martin|
Caroline you wrote the following (edit) message: "Where did you find this cemetery record? I don't think he is the son of Moses Martin (my 4th GGF) in this cemetery... Moses married Lydia Moore, and had a son named Aaron born in 1767, died 1842... Their daughter Tryphena Martin said her GF was Ephraim Moore."
- I must say I am unsure where the information came from (added almost 5 years back) - possibly taken from some old files that I have on the Martin family particular of Adam Martin (1739-1818). Also, unsure if this came from a internet search at that time...I am open to your correction, but really want to be sure. Thank you.
|Virginia Combs||Mass Vital Records|
Thanks! I found that I had two sources and that the one that agreed with your dates was also from the Mass Vital Records.
|Virginia Combs||Stephen Lapham and Rachel|
I noticed that the birth and death dates that you have on these memorials is slightly different from what I found on the Internet. Not saying that I always agree with what I find on the Internet! Just wondering if you could share your source with me...much appreciated!
|Virginia Combs||RE: Transfer?|
Thank you! I would really appreciate it!
